I totally get this, there’s always a subsect of particularly performative individuals online, and it feels disingenuous. But when you break it down to “grown men abusing their power and being creeps” versus “a group of Twitter users is being extremely vocal”, one of these scans as a much, much bigger problem than the other. One may be more tangible than the other but i wholeheartedly believe that we're deeply abusing the liberties the internet has given us and its affecting the fabric of society and global mental health in incalculable ways lol shut up you were team jesse boswell

I don't really see how Worship was defending Chris D'Elia in any way, I think he was probably referring to posting that is low key like "YES, ANOTHER CELEBRITY PEDOPHILE!" and things of that ilk, that shit is definitely a little weird

You know for a fact you have let sketchy misogyny and womanizing fly and have in all likelihood used it as convo fodder Yes, when I was 18-21 and in a college environment. I'm 33 now and have very, very different apinions about women and a markedly better understanding of the shit they go through on a day-to-day basis. Now are you done trying to make this about me rather than reckon with the fact that you're defending Chris D'Elia with annoying-kid-in-philosophy-101 rhetoric? I'm sorry but you're actually kind of proving Worship's point by saying this. I don't give a shit about this comedian, he's probably a dirtbag, I had never heard of him until today. I also assume you're a solid guy, based on the little I know about you. We don't always agree, but I highly doubt you let your past define you. With that said, we now live in an environment where people aren't allowed to leave their past behind them and right the ship. You can acknowledge the growth you've had, however, all it takes is one person from those 18-21 years you mentioned to bring up something that shines on you in an unfavorable way to completely destroy your life. You may have done everything in your power to fix your incorrect behaviors/ideas, but that is null at this juncture. Worship is not defending this comedian, he's speaking out against this new wave of mob justice where everyone's past is now liable to be weaponized against them at any time for someone's personal gain—despite the fact there have been major cultural breakthroughs which simply didn't exist in our formative years (people older than 27, mostly). I wasn't raised in "woke" culture, I had to learn it through hard experiences and mistakes. A lot of which I'm not proud of. Should my previous errors haunt me for the rest of my life? I guess that seems to be the consensus in these crowds. Look at what is happening at Bon Appetit. They rightfully outed the higher ups for discriminatory labor practices. Awesome. But for some reason, the mob justice started spilling over to another employee who had nothing to do with the initial grievance. This Delaney kid, who seemingly did nothing wrong in this scenario, had 8-10 year-old tweets dug up (some of which were made when he was fucking 17) of him saying some mildly offensive bro shit. He's on the verge of being cancelled, fired and has been forced to publicly apologize. For tweets he made 10 years ago. When he wasn't the aggressor in the original issue at all. These people are not nearly as righteous or innocent as they appear. That's why I don't throw stones. Who would willingly take part in this shit? The same twitter mob who is cancelling someone with you today, will do the same to you tomorrow if you piss off the wrong person. Not to mention, almost every bad thing we have done, can be framed in a much more insidious tone in the right context.

Is it also fair to say that if you have an apostrophe in your first name, you’re cool, but if it’s in your last name, get fucked?

Also, people getting fired from their jobs, no matter the circumstance, is nothing to applaud. It's liberalism in its worst form. Stop doing the work of corporate HR departments on Twitter for free. The only thing to take away from that is how shitty our labor protections are in this country. If they can/will fire you for saying racist things, they'll do the same for being a socialist or trying to form a union. Corporations are far and away the most aggressive arbiters of environmental and worker violence in the world. They should not hold authority to fire people for things they say outside of the workplace.
We all hate racists, but letting our employers be our judge and jury just relinquishes more worker power. Your employer is an actual material contributor to systemic racism, dumb individuals generally are not. This is not excusing the behavior, but trying to modify how these issues are handled and what the root cause actually is.
Like does anyone actually think Starbucks can sincerely promote inclusion and diversity in their stores by holding company training sessions on the subject, while most of their product is harvested by underpaid brown people? FUCK OFF.

No one is arguing against that. Worship already responded perfectly. The two "crimes" are different, but the outcome and punishment is barely distinguishable.

The two "crimes" are different, but the outcome and punishment is barely distinguishable. the consequences between those two things are absolutely distinguishable. saying problematic shit is protected speech 99% of the time. a company may fire somebody for saying something dubious ten years ago, but they won't be criminally liable. an adult who actively tries to sleep with minors may incidentally also be fired, and rightly so, but the important distinction is that sexual predation of minors is not protected by law. unless you and the judge used to buttchug adrenochrome together at yale.
