I manage the cave aged program of a vegan cheese company. This entails R&D, planning/scheduling, and endless trouble shooting (blue mold infections will be the death of me). I used to do part fabrication/maintenance at a brewery, so sometimes when machinery breaks down at the creamery I get roped into fixing that stuff too. LaRosas has vegan cheese? Only a Cincinnatian would have that name. La Rosa. No S, No Cincinnati.

I’m the lead dispatcher/heavy equipment operator/back up batchman/mixer driver/second operations manager for a small ready mix concrete company owned by a multi-billion dollar construction company. I started out here delivering concrete.
I got to keep my hourly pay during my last review (with a big raise) rather than have to take a celery and i’m on call a lot/can work from home off hours and charge the company for them and no one questions it because i’m in charge of the payroll. I’ll answer a phone call at like 8 pm while playing video games and make like a $100 for a 45 second conversation.
They also fired me last July (legally had too) and hired me back immediately after I got cleared.

Marketing Manager. At this stage it’s less creative work and more analytical work. Think of it as being terminally online but getting paid for it. I’ve hit my ceiling and I’m not happy, so prolly pivoting towards content creator (lol) temporarily to hopefully open up some opportunities for myself.

The help desk position I started in had me doing a lot of tier 2 type stuff too.

Mainly I’m an electronics wholesaler/broker. I own my own company. It’s been my life for the past 13 years. I own a medical supplies company. I also own 40% of a pest control company. Since this thread got revived. Sold my stake in the pest control company. Still in electronics and medical supplies. Have a couple other things in mind I’d like to do as well as help my gf start something of her own. My next venture is trying to start something in Canada.

I've spent the past 7+ years taking over my family restaurant. It's been open nearly 12 years total and I worked part-time/seasonally for the first few. I feel like a fraud daily, I work too much, I don't make enough money, the past year nearly broke me and I've got an out in 18 months (our lease ends) buuut I don't think I'll ever close this place down willingly. I did in fact close this restaurant willingly. Some time after making this post I found out I was having another kid. 3 kids with my wife working in restaurants too was unsustainable. wen't to school to teach high school, and I am now licensed but now way in hell I’m doing that anytime soon lol. Wife is COO of a restaurant about to open their 3rd location and I’m working with her. I’m technically the catering manager as they try to grow that side of the business as well, but I do a little bit of everything.

I just put in my two weeks at a military contractor. Got hired with an engineering firm that handles large scale automation projects.
Looking forward to it. Seems like moving up with them won't be a multi decade ordeal.

Earnestly looking for a new job since my currently company is going through an increasingly frustrating merger. It's been 9 years and the job market/application process is fucking rough. Good luck dude. The job search feels harder the longer you stay at a place in my experience - it's something that totally fucked my head up, made me feel talentless, worthless and very angry. You can do it and it will feel amazing when you do.
I very recently got a new job after 13 years of working at this one place. I'm a print production designer and spent my previous years working at a small scale package design prototype studio - it taught me a lot. Very much a boot camp in a way, but it also felt like being a line cook for (mostly) clueless graphic designers. It was also one of the most "toxic" workplaces, which I hate to use that word, but I was convinced I could handle the insanity of it from early on and be a stronger person for it. Half of the toxicity I'm talking about is chemicals and other bullshit I should not have been inhaling on a daily basis. After not being there for a few weeks my nostrils have never felt this open. There are tons of OSHA violations there for sure. It has been really weird to work in an actual office with polite/professional people, no punch card, not hearing racial slurs daily, no screaming matches with alcoholics who can't handle their booze, no crack heads, free snacks and coffee?? It feels like I sold out (dumb thought), and after feeling worthless and stuck, it almost feels like I didn't deserve to get out. But I'm very happy to be working for the company I work now. Only downside is the lack of physicality, which the old gig had plenty of, so I gotta start on the push ups and bullshit.
Yo, same!! Spent 13 years doing prepress and design for a large-format printer. The place was SOOOO fucked up, I just never realized how badly it was doing the same to me. It finally wen't under 7 or 8 years ago and it was the best thing to ever happen not me. I loved the work, but the industry on the whole is miserable so I was determined to get out. But you are right, 13 years in a single job with my whole working life in that field does NOT make that an easy task. After 3 amazing summer months of unemployment, I lucked into a production management job at a cancer hospital. I'm still designing for print (ad now web/social media), prepping other designers files for the same, but now I'm sending them all out to someone else to print. The staff here love me because I'm saving them a ton of additional fees they used to incur when submitting print jobs, and the vendors all love me because I've been on their side of the aisle previously and do my best to make their job as smooth as possible. I'm doing half the work I used to with almost none of the stress that came with it, and a significant pay increase too. Everything you mention hits home, racism, alcoholics screaming, but I definitely get the lack of physicality. wen't from moving 60", 80 lb rolls of photographic paper through multiple machines in a darkroom and lab to sitting at a desk (at home ow!) all day

I'm too comfortable to make a move and the idea of doing anything different is terrifying after this long

Feel you on that. Been at my current place since 2012, and am sure I could be making more elsewhere but the idea of job hunting, or even worse being the new guy (and having to prove myself all over again), sounds hellacious.
