Nice, hope you enjoy it!
Ikiru is beautiful. It’s tone is different than most of his other stuff but definitely one of his greatest.

Getting Ken Russell's Women in Love first.
Agreed on all those Kurosawa movies. Have to mention it, since it was my avatar on here on the old board, but if you haven't seen Harakiri by Misaki Kobayashi, highly recommend that. Great performance by Tatsuya Nakadai. My all time fave Samurai, Japanese movie with TWO of the best sword fights ever.

Man I loved Sicario Day of the Soldado. I hope Sheridan keeps writing these movies forever. This was like the best modern Zapata Western. Zigged and zagged everywhere and came out perfectly, IMO. I thought everything was was aptly told in succession of last film. These two characters of Brolin's and Del Toro's are fleshed out better than a lot of others. Some great shots. I felt that someone was always watching me when watching this, a different kind of tension than the first. But I think that was both ominous and not accidental given the state of current affairs.
can we hide spoilers here?

That trailer for Animal World is very misleading, interesting movie, but kind of a mess. The trailer made it look like a bonkers superhero/clown movie when it isn't that at all.

As someone who is not opposed to big dumb movies, Jurrasic World: Fallen Kingdom was mostly shit with a little bit of fun here and there. Either way, disappointing.

throne of blood is my favourite kurosawa, but he wouldn't be in my personal top 3 japanese directors (although he's often #1 in most).

Loved the first Sicario but the trailers kind of turned me off, but I can't quite articulate why. Seemed too 80s action movie-y? Which normally would not be an insult at all but it's not what I'm looking for in Sicario.

If you want a good, spoiler free review of Sicario/Soldado, check out Chris Stuckman’s YouTube review. He pretty much felt the same way I did and will get you hella excited for the film.

Ozu is up there for me. in terms of overall, consistently good output: imamura, kitano, and kore-eda. tokyo story would be in my top 5 films of all time, though.

His new Outrage movie is supposed to come out later this year/

Tau (Netflix original) is a completely ludicrous movie that’s only made semi watchable by the glorious Maika Monroe. Other than that it sucks so bad. Stop putting Ed Skrein in movies.

So, for some reason, I have never seen Blow Out. Today I am going to watch the Criterion Collection release of that and finally put an end to me not seeing a celebrated De Palma movie.

Damn, you were fucking up. I re-watched it recently and it brought me back to when I made a short film and the challenges of getting certain sound effects.

Damsel was pretty good. Kinda slow in the first 30 minutes, but it picks up after that. Quite unpredictable and I liked how it toys with gender roles in a Western. There is also a few moments that made me LOL.

Sicario was one of my favorite movies of the past few years. When I saw the preview and poster art for the 2nd one my first impression was fuck this trash.
While the first one is a better movie in every possible category this sequel was fucking soooooo fun.

Go watch Three Identical Strangers!!!! Wow!!! I got free Arclight passes for getting a membership for AFI. I was tempted to go see this yesterday at the Arclight, but I'm probably going to wait til it comes closer to me. Looks really good though.
