Also it just seems like a selection effect. The types of people that self select into being mass shooters probably share a lot of the characteristics that also make someone likely to self select into the military. Someone who has no qualms shooting up the local movie theater or grocery store obviously isn't gonna have a problem shooting strangers halfway across the world either. Plus having military training also probably increases the odds of someone being successful with this stuff.
So the weird implication that the military is causing this is pretty dumb. Should the military consider weeding out people who would pose a risk in the future when their time in the military is over? Sure. Should we greatly reduce the size and scope of our military? Sure.

They're trying to claim a causal connection to the military and mass shootings. I'm just pointing out that the causal direction probably does not run that way. It's not surprising that a subset of the population that are murderous psychopaths have a sizeable intersection with another subset of the population that are murderous psychopaths. Not to mention that the survival rate of mass shooters (actually being able to pull off a shooting) is higher with people with military training. What about all the Incel Seans of the world that just can't get the planning right to go on a mass shooting? They won't be counted in those statistics.
The military sucks, it could probably limit damage by being more selective at who it trains. And there's plenty of reasons to dislike the military without making shit up.

lol sean what is your angle here? As the article itself says, the military is not a mass shooter factory churning them out by the millions. The events themselves are statistically rare and it seems pretty uncontroversial to me that people with a previous interest in guns and killing would join the military in the first place.

The military is actually good because it offloads American psychopaths on other countries during prime ages of being prone to violence. Imagine how many more mass shootings thereβd be here if we hadnβt sent all these people to do mass shootings in the Middle East. The only problem is that the countries weβre sending these people to now arenβt as good at killing American soldiers as they used to be, so a lot of our psychopaths make it back home to wreak havoc.
