Benoit, Guerrero and Malenko all used to absolutely lay in their powerbombs, specially against each other. That video was pretty fun though. Ospreay has a fuckin gnarly ligerbomb in recent years too, lands em up high with the legs over the arms

I've been digging into 2000's All Japan this year and Umaga/Jamal had a notable powerbomb too, he never struggled with the heavyweights and absolutely obliterated any juniors he got ahold of with it

I haven't really watched any 2000s AJPW, got anything you'd recommend? Umaga was so awesome, just a crazy athletic dude for his size. That last man standing match with Cena was so fuckin good. 3 minute warning had so much potential but were so short lived. Though in checking how long they lasted I saw they won Observer award for worst tag team in 02, dumb.

I've been watching IWA Mid South lately too and it's been hilarious and bad and awesome. Just the trashiest fans, venues that look dilapidated and fucked up 00's American death-matches.
I just finished day 1 of 2004's King of the Death Match and you gotta watch Klein vs. Necro II. The year previous is the infamous VHS spot where Klein fucking corks Necro with a heavy 90's style VCR and it's horrendous so this is the rematch and it's great.
I know Necro is a wife beating MAGA corncob but I love watching this goof work. No one like him, brother.

Necro had a stretch where he was one of the more exciting dudes on the Indies, cos it was awesome to see how they'd fuck him up, with the mostobvious example being Joe. He had a good match with Danielson in PWG where Dragon basically just splits Necro open with his bare hands. Also it was dumb but the story in CZW where he was acting like a big Hollywood star after being in the wrestler and having his stunt double fill in for him and shit was fun.
Also that Jamal vs Kawada match was very fun, cheers for that. The bruise on Jamal's arm was gnarly and you right about his powerbomb. I love how Kawada always just seems like he's taking everything very personally, I love that grouchy bastard

Even in a death match tournament they're working like they have personal issues. Necro Butcher was the shit to my group of wrestling nerd friends. He was basically everything guys like Meltzer hyped Bruiser Brody as being. Maybe it's the gummies speaking but I'd almost consider having Necro in my top ten wrestlers, close to the top five. Favorite wrestlers that is. |

Or if you wanna go crazier, COD V, some all timer bumps in that match. Like when a sidewalk slam off a scaffold into a ring full of tacks isn't even top 3 biggest bumps in the match, you know its fucked. Kurt vs Benoit at Rumble 03. If they're at all interested in grappling or MMA this might appeal. These two had such intensity and intent in their mat wrestling and this just felt like a war. As a kid this changed how I felt about wrestling, like the first time I started to appreciate the art of it, rather than just popping for tables and chokeslams and the Rock. A more goofy fun mat based match might be either Danielson vs Sabre Jr where it's a bit more exhibition style than real fight lookin. Do Fixer vs Blood Generation from ROH Supercard of Honor 06. Fast paced athletic mayhem where you blink and you miss something rad. Basically any PWG 6 man owes that match so much but the one from BOLA with Bucks, Ricochet Cole Sydal and Ospreay was sick so worth a look. Calgary Stampede main event. Shows how much a part of wrestling the crowd is. Great match with the crowd interactions making it an all timer. In a similar vein, Kikuchi and Kobashi vs Can Am Express. Crowd for this is so bonkers and Kikuchi is the most over man in the world on this night. Dude Love vs Stone Cold at Over the Edge 98. When overbooking and run ins are done to perfection. This one basically perfected the Attitude Era main event style with tonnes of shenanigans that make it a roller coaster. Also Rock vs Triple H at Backlash 2000. That Austin pop is something else and this match is just a blast, Triple H was on an incredible run in 2000. Sorry for the essay but that's 5 as like, different styles as you may know what they most into. Obviously also deathmatches and stiff fests as recommended here are also great options. Fuck I love wrestling. |
