Yesterday I got Neil Young's "On The Beach" which is one of my favorite albums ever. Today I'm paying for that brief moment of joy by having to slog through a fucking hour and a half Van Morrison double live album. Somebody just take me out behind the barn and put a bullet in my head with this shit

Yesterday was a Randy Newman album. First time during this project I couldn’t finish the whole album. I can’t take his voice seriously.
Today is Lynyrd Skynyrds first album. Three of the four songs of theirs I know (simple man, Tuesdays gone, and free bird), are all on this one. That is an absolutely insane debut.

Ok what the fuck. The last 4 days have been Fleet Foxes, Kings of Leon, Arctic Monkeys and Lupe Fiasco. Just a murderers row of shitty 00s music.

Gene Clark-No Other
2 songs in before stopped it. About as generic as you can get.

there is this really great video of a bunch of different musicians who got together to do a live show of Gene Clark's No Other and this cover of Life's Greatest Fool is really good (if you already into the song, of course)

Definitely not the same
My recents:
Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath 👍 Wouldn’t really seek out to listen to again though X - Wild Gift 👍 Sugar - Copper Blue ❤️
Today I got effin’ U2 - All That You Can’t Leave Behind Currently listening and it’s putting me in a bad mood. Do not like.

Today’s album is RHCP- Californication.
When I was in high school, a friend of mine got me into these guys and I was probably John Frusciante’s biggest (straight edge) fan, and this was easily my favorite album. Didn’t take too long to grow out of that phase, thank satan. I think I can still enjoy the singles enough to tolerate, but the rest of this will be a slog.
My best friend who is also trying to do this project also got a rhcp album today. I think the algorithm wants us all to have a sick, chill ass Friday.

You should definitely check out the second one, it's got just as many hits imo

Day 1 - Elvis Presley (s/t) 3/5 Day 2 - AC/DC (Back In Black) 1/5 Day 3 - Big Brother & The Holding Company (Cheap Thrills) 4/5 Day 4 - The Offspring (Smash) 2/5 Day 5 - Franz Ferdinand (s/t) 3/5 Day 6 - Simon & Garfunkel (Parsley, Sage, Rosemary And Thyme) 3/5 - found a few tracks I really enjoyed from this (Patterns especially is very beautiful) but most of them sounded the same to me Day 7 - The Flaming Lips (The Soft Bulletin) 1/5 - some of the most masturbatory bullshit I've ever heard in my life and probably objectively the worst vocals in all of rock music, I hate the Flaming Lips so much, all of the insipid lowbrow attempts at a "grand" arena sound like Coldplay and U2 but also with none of the talent of either Day 8 - Janelle Monae (The ArchAndroid) 5/5 - This has been one of my favorite soul/R&B albums of all time for over 10 years now and I will never get tired of it, one of the best concept albums of all time seriously go listen to it Day 9 - GZA (Liquid Swords) 4/5 - An absolute classic I never listened to in full until now, still sounds so effortless and smooth all these years later, only not 5/5 because I don't think it's GZA's best album Day 10 - Ms. Dynamite (A Little Deeper) 2/5 - Why is this even on this list, very generic and dated early 2000s R&B, absolutely not something you need to listen to "before you die". Knockoff Lauryn Hill but English? You can tell this list was made by a Brit in the early 2000s because there is no other conceivable way someone would see this album as relevant or timeless otherwise Day 11 - Nine Inch Nails (The Downward Spiral) - 4/5 cornier than I remember, but still holds up Day 12 - Skepta (Konnichiwa) - 2/5 more random UK dogshit showing the author's bias, but this time it's a really corny grime album. Ludacris nursery rhyme type bars, skits that belong in a rap album from 2003... it's bad Day 13 - The Wire (Pink Flag) - 5/5 this album changed my life when I was a teenager and made me fall in love with punk -- so blessed for this being one of my first introductions to punk and I can't believe it came out in 1977, this could be a fresh album in every single year since Day 14 - The Fall (This Nation's Saving Grace) - 5/5 to be honest I didn't really get The Fall until Sean made me like an 85 song long playlist of their songs -- I've successfully been brainwashed into getting them -- when I was first getting into older post-punk in high school I found them boring and did not have the patience to listen through their massive discography, now I love them so much especially this one it's one of their more accessible ones Day 15 - Johnny Cash (At San Quentin) 2/5 - this just felt like a throwaway bootleg recording for diehard Johnny Cash fans rather than a good live album

meh. The best song was basically a Specials b-side. It’s hard to care about Seventeen Seconds when its followed by Faith, which is also recorded in a really oddball way (massive tape loops, contact mics on drums, etc.)

Le Tigre self titled today. I liked the first half but the more electronic it got, they lost me.

The Fall was my favorite band, I bought 3 or 4 records before it clicked. Dragnet was the one that did it. I basically quit listening to them when he died though
I have a bunch of cool Fall stuff. I'll post some of it. Mark E. Smith gave me a beer.

sighned up for this and first album I got is Steely Dan's 1972 classic "Can't Buy a Thrill", which has basically all your Dan radio bangers like Do It Again, Dirty Work and Reelin in the Years. Been a while since I listened to the entire thing though so I'll go through the whole thing for an honest appraisal.
edit: yeah this still rocks. 4/5. Midnite Cruiser and Change of the Guard are 2 great songs that weren't radio hits or singles. no stinkers on here at all.
