Count Basie fucking rocks! Got Jeff Buckley - Grace today. Not what I expected but I like most of it more than I thought I would Lover, You Should've Come Over and Last Goodbye are both gorgeously horny and maudlin simultaneously

Got Led Zeppelin today. Honestly not looking forward to it. I’ve heard their singles enough to never want to hear another ripped off blues riff ever again. which album Zeppelin I, first self titled. I’m not as upset with it as I was expecting. Maybe it’s because it doesn’t have any of their massive singles like Stairway or Ramble On, so I am more unfamiliar with it. My music knowledge is extremely stunted. My parents didn’t introduce me to ANYTHING musically, so I just straight up haven’t heard a ton of the “classics” and I would imagine the majority of this 1001 albums list. If there’s a version of this for movies, the list of things I am unfamiliar with is probably even more egregious.

Adele -21 yesterday. I think it’s law that I, as a white woman, like at least one of her songs
Buddy Holly - Chirping Crickets today. I like Buddy Holly and these types of oldies are a safe bet for me. Have really only listened to best of/hits type stuff though. Enjoyed it

It’s hilarious that this doesn’t work on the weekend It gave me an option to generate albums on the weekend. I don’t remember where now, but I was irritated that it said no weekend albums then saw the option Yesterday: MGMT - Oracular Spectacula. Prior to listening if you’d asked me if I’d heard them I would have said “probably?”. Definitely heard of, but would not been able to identify them at all. First song on the album I definitely knew. I actually liked several songs. Just now: Radiohead - ok computer. Pretty sure I’ve heard this whole album before but so far don’t recall it. Not into the first song.

Yeah I had weekend albums before I joined a group. I swear it was just a checkbox when I sighned up. Group owner’s settings take over if you join one so I stopped getting them. Now there’s some note about having to message them on Twitter or Reddit to get weekend options

Had Crosby, Stills, and Nash yesterday. Enjoyed it more than I expected to, but probably not something I’ll go back to.
Today’s album, on the other hand… Bongo Rock by the Incredible Bongo Band is fucking killer. Great version of “Apache” and “Last Bongo in Belgium” is sampled in Looking Down the Barrel of a Gun by the beastie boys. Will definitely be listening to this all summer.

Day 1 - Elvis Presley (s/t) 3/5 Day 2 - AC/DC (Back In Black) 1/5 Day 3 - Big Brother & The Holding Company (Cheap Thrills) 4/5 Day 4 - The Offspring (Smash) 2/5 Day 5 - Franz Ferdinand (s/t) 3/5 Day 6 - Simon & Garfunkel (Parsley, Sage, Rosemary And Thyme) 3/5 - found a few tracks I really enjoyed from this (Patterns especially is very beautiful) but most of them sounded the same to me Day 7 - The Flaming Lips (The Soft Bulletin) 1/5 - some of the most masturbatory bullshit I've ever heard in my life and probably objectively the worst vocals in all of rock music, I hate the Flaming Lips so much, all of the insipid lowbrow attempts at a "grand" arena sound like Coldplay and U2 but also with none of the talent of either Day 8 - Janelle Monae (The ArchAndroid) 5/5 - This has been one of my favorite soul/R&B albums of all time for over 10 years now and I will never get tired of it, one of the best concept albums of all time seriously go listen to it Day 9 - GZA (Liquid Swords) 4/5 - An absolute classic I never listened to in full until now, still sounds so effortless and smooth all these years later, only not 5/5 because I don't think it's GZA's best album Day 10 - Ms. Dynamite (A Little Deeper) 2/5 - Why is this even on this list, very generic and dated early 2000s R&B, absolutely not something you need to listen to "before you die". Knockoff Lauryn Hill but English? You can tell this list was made by a Brit in the early 2000s because there is no other conceivable way someone would see this album as relevant or timeless otherwise

Bowie- Station to Station 6 songs is just the right amount of Bowie for me in one sitting. 5 stars.

Belle and Sebastian - If you’re Feeling Sinister.
I don’t think I have ever heard a song by this band. Probably not something I typically listen to, but here we go…
