Watched the first ep over the last week. Pretty decent but kinda corny at times, worth the time all in all

Oh wow I was just listening to the Outlaw Country station on Sirius and was thinking “man I’d love to hear some Tanya Tucker right now” then boom they played one of her songs 5 seconds later

Anyone dip into the Ken Burns doc yet? Planning on it, but at 16 hours long gotta get some other things out of the way first. had a head cold last weekend and ripped through most of it in 2 days. some episodes are 2:15. so much info to take in. he focuses a lot on the beginnings and early stages. the later stuff (that has a lot of documentation already) doesn't get as much depth. the same way he did his jazz one. great to follow the evolution of a style

I listen to a bit of Jason-Isbell-adjacent music but I've never really given him my full attention. I gave Southeastern a try today while driving the truck at work.
First off I thought the music itself was absolutely great. Instrumentation, vocals, musicianship, all amazing. But I sort of couldn't stand the lyrics, which is not normally something that even bothers me. The whole thing felt like a really weird humble brag to me. Like, "I'm a wise sage now, but you wouldn't BELIEVE how much pussy I used to slay, and still could if I wanted to, but I'm just so darned tired and world-wise now." It reminded me a little bit of Lucero, another band with apocalyptically embarrassing lyrics.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

For me personally, Something More Than Free stands head and shoulders above the rest of Isbell's work. Love it and Southeastern didn't do much for me aside from a couple very good tracks.

Found this song bit ago, wonder if they're gonna do anything else with this.
Guess should note it's Hank 3 and I guess Anton LaVey grandson and Manson's grand daughter.

Both Southeastern and Something More Than Free mean as much to me as a piece of music can reasonably mean to a person. I think there’s a fine line when writing/talking/singing about sobriety, I’ve heard plenty of things that make me roll my eyes. Isbell has always stayed on the right side of that line for me but I can see the other side too. I think in general, regardless of the subject matter, Isbell’s lyrics are well crafted - he’s very concise but still manages to say so much. Some of his story telling songs like Live Oak are just on another level.

The other playlist is about five hours long so I figured I started up a second volume... Thirty songs in at the moment and aiming for another seventy sad guy honky tonk tracks.

So saw Nelson a bit back, I've seen him several times in the past years and I gotta say this last time was bad. Couple years back like he would talk sing more than anything but it was alright and this last time he barely sang at all and the guitar work was pretty noticeably bad. Still a good time. Then saw Midland last week and they put on a show, it was a good time lotta drunk idiots and very fancy men.

Been deep diving on some euro country. My dude here got locked up by the gestapo in '43, played the Opry in '53 then bought Zorro's horse in '58 and opened up a theme park not far from where I live. Wild.
