Harmonica Sam's got a new record out. Dangerously close to "euros cosplaying american culture" but he can back it up musically.

I always jam this around the holidays, if you're a Truckers fan you've probably heard it, awesome live recording.

Wife got us tickets to Tyler Childers and Sturgill in April for Christmas.
I’ve been spinning a lot of Paul Cauthen’s new record “Room 41”, Vincent Neil Emerson, John Prine and Ruston Kelly this past week.
Sounds like Isbell is headed to the studio and I cannot fucking wait.
A coworker also recommended Black Pumas and they’ve been great so far from my limited listening. Alt Country with some blues/soul vocals.

It's definitely in the top three for me. I keep flip-flopping between Tyler Childers and Paul Cauthen for my favorite of the year.

There is some interesting stuff in this thread. I'll post some things that don't get spoken of all too often. The first is this Robbie Basho album from 1981 called tie dye Thunder. Basho is connected to country in what is I suppose an alt- sort of way, in that he's vaguely related to folk because his albums are almost always just him playing guitar. He might have something more in common with the likes of Bert Jansch if not for the fact that he's done things like tie dye Thunder which root themselves in ancient America and its myths. He's done vaguely country-like albums before, like his 1978 masterpiece Visions of the Country, but with tie dye Thunder he's more deliberately doing "the feelings and textures of the West in its Prime, and of the Native American Peoples who lived there." This makes for some very unusual and sometimes strange guitar playing, song arrangements and vocals. Ultimately I think tie dye Thunder is another of Basho's great masterpieces. He's a real inspiration to guitar players too, one of those guys who sounds totally free when he plays. I can't recommend it enough to you if you're already on the outskirts of country. This next one is the final album from Souled American. These guys were one of those early "alt-country" bands and their first record, Fe, was released on Rough Trade back in 1988, as would the next three of their albums until 1992. But between 1994 and 1996, when this last album is released, they released weirder and way more sparse albums on Moll Tonträger out of Germany. For me, Notes Campfire is their one and only masterpiece. There is likely no other album in country that sounds anything like it and probably nothing ever really will or want to. Whatever happened, it was some of the sound of late 80s and early 90s alt-country riding off and not coming back. Also of interest was a weird art project called "Fifty Posters About Souled American" that happened a year after Notes Campfire comes out. Two people asked for thoughts about Souled American, got a bunch of response, and posted their thoughts as 61 street posters around NYC in 1997. Even though, not unlike the music itself, the pretentiousness threatens to undermine the whole thing, somehow there's a little spark in that postering project that is endearing and sometimes even compelling. If you feel like it. Finally, since people have sometimes been posting about David Allan Coe, I want to strongly encourage you to find a collection of demos that came out in 2005 and blew me away at the time. It's called For the Soul and the Mind: Demos 1971-1974. If you ask me, some of his best songs of all time are found in those archives, this one among them: I'll say more another day.

The boy's new album "Okay, Crawdad" is kind of crusty but real good none the less.

Scored tickets to see Kacy & Clayton coming february in a small bar, should be good. Meanwhile I'm still on the fence about driving two and a half hours to see Tyler Childers on a weekday night in some big venue.

Bad news - Colter Wall sold out before I could snag a ticket so I'll likely be paying out the ass on Stubhub for a ticket Good news - Vincent Neil Emerson is opening and doing a free show earlier in the day about two blocks from my house

I guess getting to see any punk band multiple times at packed show any day of the week is the reason that it’s rare as fuck to have the chance to see any musicians in this thread. Ya can’t have it all I guess.

I must be misreading something but I don't understand the point you're trying to make. What does attending punk bands at packed shows have to do with having musicians post in this thread?

I live in New York. Every punk band on tour plays New York. Most posts in this thread rarely if ever make it up here.
