This is super fun. I’ve been listening to hellbound glory lots lately. Streets of Aberdeen is a great album.

Live at the Old Quarter is a solid choice, probably second that.
Love Hellbound Glory, home town heroes haha. Was actually able to catch a Leroy acoustic set the other night, wen't solo got tuned up and had a great time and the whole band is playing here in March with Shooter.

Saw Tyler Childers and Sturgill on Saturday at the Masonic Temple in Detroit.
Tyler and his band sounded phenomenal. He should be and I'm guessing may be the biggest name in country at some point sooner than later.
I dont know what Sturgills going through. I discovered him through the B9 years ago well before he broke. It seems like hes really trying to test or divide his fanbase. Playing his new album front to back was an interesting choice. He did sprinkle in some bob seger. Overall the band sounded phenomenal. It just bums me out when i listen to him interviewed. He seems so bitter and negative.

Jealous of hearing Childers brought a good show. Had a chance of seeing him on his euro tour a while back but decided against driving two hours one way on a weekday night. His last album is real good though.

Seeing Sturgill and Tyler in a couple of weeks and couldn’t be more stoked.
I have seen Sturgill play to a smaller crowd so I’m looking forward to seeing him in a coliseum. Good to hear that Tyler has been sounding great!

Also, Dollar Country put up a 3 hour special.

Franklin's quarantine special really is something else. A lot of respect for his work ethic as I can't imagine the hours the muchacho has to put in to dig three hours worth of obscure hits out of dollar bins. His hundredth (100th) episode of the show should be up today or tomorrow too, which is another type of insanity all in itself.

You're in Sweden right? If you don't mind my asking, how did you get into country?

I'm from Belgium (Flanders if you want to split hairs), about two hours out of Köln. Got into it mostly through others band's country-damaged output. Like, it's kind of embarrassing looking back now but Nick 13's first solo efforts along with stuff like Hank III and Joe Buck opened me up to Hank sr. Then things like The Men's country fried output on Open Your Heart and Pokey Lafarge's 2013 s/t album sealed the deal. Interesting question though, how did the rest of you people in this thread get into it?

Right, sorry for the mix up! I know you briefly talked about it when CC came around, but is there a "scene" there?
Growing up in Southern California (the desert part), I was always sort of exposed to it. I was really into Garth Brooks as a kid (Ropin' the Wind and No Fences were staples of my cassette world of the early 90s, thanks to my sister), but then it sort of wen't away as I got into punk, etc. Since moving to Germany - it may sound cheesy- but I've kind of had a growing yearning toward that "open space" and "rugged westernism" that can (sometimes) be reflected in Country music and that sent me the past few years down a rabbit hole. My musical taste is very much related to weather and situation, so my interest in hiking/camping/gardening has sort of grown alongside my interest into folk/country/etc. I listen to a lot of those Smithsonian Folkways albums and try to understand the historical parallels between song content and broader socio-economic realities.
Man, all that came out way more "faux-insightful" than I wanted to.

I grew up on it, my first concerts were Tanya Tucker, Shania Twain and early Kenny Chesney. I really feel in love with Merle Haggard first as far as outlaw stuff goes but I was already balls deep with artists like Clint Black, Garth and George Strait. I didn't discover people like Guy Clark, John Prine, Terry Allen to much later in life sadly so if you're looking for the best story teller songwriters; start there.

I guess there's a whole scene around rockabilly and 'billy-adjacent music but I stay far away from it. While I try not to be all to negative about it, and there'll surely be people with their hearts in the right place doing it, it's mostly folks living out that American white trash/hillbilly cosplay lifestyle. Down to the dirty wifebeater and overalls-one-loop-down. Seems like it's mostly acts like Bob Wayne, Carrie Nation and the likes that are popular. Every year there's a big fest around here that has a mixed bill of punk rock, rockabilly and some country acts and I think that pretty much proves the point. I could be wrong though, I don't know.

It's always been around for me. Dad was way into blues, folk, bluegrass etc. Hung in casinos and sports bars while parents played in a dart league always jamming current country and rock and would hit blues/folk festivals in the summer. Started listening to more punk/hc for my teenage years and then found Hank III and all the associated acts also the same time I started drinking, strange. After that slowly been diving deeper and deeper into it.
