Lopez said that the people giving TD lower scores are bros and hardcore season one fans. Culture war stuff is past annoying, man. In reality, the episode was fine and I think the show would have benefitted immensely from not having the True Detective name attached at all, as was originally intended.

Ranking and critiquing shows episode by episode is one of the worst trends of the internet era.

The Curse kicked ass. Never post in this thread and came to post about it and glad to see others are talking about it I’m not sure there has to be a specific single interpretation of why it ended like it did, I think it works fine considering several theories. But I do mostly subscribe to the rebirth/reincarnation path for Asher. There’s a ton of signs throughout the show that feed into it in retrospect, so I’m curious to see how much more is picked up in a rewatch.
- The necklace symbolizing rebirth - him constantly doing baby voice bits - his baby dick - “it’s like there’s a little me inside you” - projecting the moon/space onto her belly for the baby to see as its “sky” which it will soon be pulled into out of the womb, just as Asher was - the doula bringing Asher from the initial womb of the house to the point of full separation in the tree - the tree as umbilical cord connecting him to “mother” earth before finally being cut and pulled away - Dougie yelling at Asher in the tree to “climb to the V” - his penchant for being a sub/cuck in the relationship to Whit’s narcissism and dom personality, though both tried to suppress or hide these characteristics. Both of them finally realizing those aspects in full by Asher shedding what independence he may have had left as an adult man and becoming truly dependent on Whit, and in kind her becoming the true solo creator/controller of a life
There’s a lot more but it’s hard to remember all right this second. Great character study show and great memorable ending
This was helpful, thank you! I don't think this question is a spoiler but: what was up with the bearded guy in Abshir (Barkhad Abdi)'s house? I interpreted his reaction as: just being uncertain that he was actually getting the house because it's such an insane gift to give to someone? So he was only asking practical questions to ensure he would actually get the house... also maybe his daughter told him what happened in her room so he just hates them haha

Ranking and critiquing shows episode by episode is one of the worst trends of the internet era. To be fair... I don't think there's a "proper" way to exhibit tv criticism. Are you supposed to look at the season as a whole? But some people say individual seasons are setting up future seasons so then... the series as a whole? But sometimes shows get cancelled and it seems uncommon to have a completely produced vision on television of the showrunner's intent? & any time an individual episode is bad people are like, "It's just setting something else up." I just don't get it haha

So he was only asking practical questions to ensure he would actually get the house... also maybe his daughter told him what happened in her room so he just hates them haha My interpretation of the bearded guy It was earlier mentioned by Whit’s dad about the ripper who stripped his units of all their appliances/etc before bailing. Abshir clearly was under the impression that he was getting evicted that day Asher and Whit came by. Maybe that guy was helping strip the joint on their way out and that’s why he kept the door closed and shushed the guy away and the girls weren’t home (already moved out). Then Abshir asked for the property tax cash and wanted it asap. Seemed he was just trying to cut and run before being evicted and then when he found out otherwise the house was already stripped so might as well take the cash too. Abshir was clearly never fond of Asher and was always weirded out by him too

I made it halfway through the first episode of The Curse and had to bail. I really want to finish it because I love everything else Nathan has done so far.

I doubt anyone has seen it but you Americans should check out Boy Swallows Universe on Netflix. Show rules, and the book is even better.

I was lukewarm on s5 of Fargo throughout most of this season, but I thought the last couple of eps were fucking excellent. Wayne cluelessly clinking soda bottles with Ole Munch during the final scene is one of my favorite moments of the whole series.

True Detective 4.
Some sketchy editing.
So far that’s all I got.
Even with Jodie, I just don’t think this show manages to even sniff a fraction of the exceptional nature of season 1.

I couldn’t get through the first episode of true detective season 4. The bad CGI reindeer were just the start. Edit: I tried two more times to finish just the first episode to no avail. Fuckin sucks.
The curse was so good, laughed a lot and haven’t seen the final episode but read all of your spoilers so I can seem sagely to my girlfriend. THANKS

Question about TDS4E2: What was up with the screaming in the opening? I thought one of them may be still alive but... no....?

Question about TDS4E2: What was up with the screaming in the opening? I thought one of them may be still alive but... no....? Lund (I think that’s his name), is alive. They call Foster’s character in the following scene to say he’s lost limbs but is in a medically induced coma.

Yeah they’re tying this in to TD1 100%. Just wondering if they’ll go esoteric with it or if we’ll actually get a Rust, Marty cameo
