I have about 100 pages left in this. I’m still up in the air about how I feel about it so far. Definitely don’t feel it will end up as one of his “classics” but it is a good read. your conclusion is right but the first 150-200 or so pages are so fast pace and engaging that i still think its a worth it. in fact thats my apinion on the majority of his books. consider the ending as just something necessary and focus on the ride getting there instead. I loved the beginning. I liked that it started as just a straight crime story/investigation. I definitely don’t hate it, but it lost me when...... I don’t know if spoilers work the same way on here, but I’ll just say the twist he’s going with isn’t really my thing.

Just finished A Scanner Darkly. My friends and I started a Sci Fi & Fantasy book club a few months ago. I love reading but I'll find any excuse not to so it's kept me motivated. That's really cool, I wish I knew more people into good books so I could do that haha. I love a scanner darkly

Currently reading the Shephard's Hut by Tim Winton. Enjoying it but some of the dialogue is a challenge to get through.

Recently finished:
The Tunnel by William Gass (absolutely phenomenal but so dense. Definitely warrants a second read) Naked Lunch by William S. Burroughs (I tried to read this a few years back and dropped it in 30 pages. Got through it all this time. I guess I understand the legacy, but I didn’t enjoy it too much.)
Currently reading:
The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath (almost done. Good so far)
Up next:
I think Europe Central by William Vollman. I’m reading a lot of Williams lately.

The Demon-Haunted World - Carl Sagan Endlessly quotable. I like to highlight when I come across a good quote and yeah, a solid portion of my copy is yellow.

Crucible of Command. If you’re into civil war/American history, it’s great.

About to head on vacation. Im hoping to Finish Console Wars. The story of Nintendo and Sega and all their marketing/inside business stuff from the NES and Genesis era.
Also going to check out Why We Sleep by Matthew Walker. Liatened to this dude on Joe Rogan and thought he was interesting and i find the whole science of sleep pretty fadcinating.

yo so I read that new King book Outsider I really liked it. The writing itself was kinda.. strange. it almost felt like it was ghostwritten by someone who got the gist of King's style but didn't quite match his ability. I can't explain it exactly, but just certain parts felt kind of rushed or written a little too neatly like "And he wen't and talked to his family and everything was fine. so anyways onto the next thing.." I also noticed a couple times certain words would be repeated in the same chapter which felt kinda amateurish for him. and not in the sort of way where he likes to take certain words or phrases and really hammer them into the ground on purpose, just fancy words that felt like they should not have appeared so closely together. but the story itself was so fucking engaging that none of that stuff bothered me. I rolled through the book in two days because I was so into it. The story itself was one of my favorite of his from the last 5 if not 10 years. I also couldnt help but picture how it would make for a really great miniseries on some streaming service. I highly recommend this book for summer time fun
