Cancer Ward - when reading Russian to English translations… what do you do with the long Russian names in your brain? Tmovlwlxnvzjncjsxn translate to Tom. And so on…

Started into Ringmaster (Vince McMahon bio) last week. So far really enjoying it. Just finished it. I enjoyed it, though I was aware of all the scandals detailed in the book. I found the part about his childhood most interesting. Didn't know this was out. Gonna put it on my list. Finished 'A Year of Rest and Relaxation'. I liked it a lot. Watched a couple movies that were mentioned in it, too. Also finished 'Two or Things I Know for Sure' and that was quick, but a good read. Last night, I started 'Crying in H Mart' which I meant to read a few years ago. Also, I am about 50 pages into 'Drinking: A Love Story' by Caroline Knapp which is making me think about my relationship with alcohol/ dense nuggs of fat buds over the years.

I've seen her a bunch over the years and love the tunes, but was in a real reading rut the past couple years so I'm just getting to it now.

Started "The Search For God And Guinness" by Stephen Mansfield. Its basically a history of Guinness with i think a little bit of religious stuff thrown in too. First chapter was pretty good.

If anyone's read or wants to read Gravity's Raiinbow, I cannot recommend the Slow Learners podcast enough. It's broken up by chapters so you could easily just power through and recap with these. As a fan of the book it is so good.

Gravity's tie dye is sitting on the shelf, but after Against The Day and now Solenoid it's gonna have to wait a while. But always into literary/book podcasts.

As a fan of the book it is so good. This sounds cool. I read it around ten years ago and don’t remember much of it.

I just finished Lonesome Dove and set the book down to open this thread. It’s easily the greatest novel I’ve ever read. I expected to like it but wow.

I’ve had it on my list for years and have heard from a few folks it’s the best book they’ve read. Finally going to give it a go when I finish up my current read.

Also ordered Mircea Cartarescu's Solenoid which is significantly longer, and at my rate will take me until March to complete. Sixty pages in I was telling my wife that this could be one of the best books I have ever read, primarily because of the themes and insights and effect of the text to reflect myself, or at least seeming to do so which is artful in itself. At one hundred pages that aspect has lessened somewhat but it's still shaping up to be an excellent read. My original (joke) estimate turned out to be accurate. Finished this one earlier today. Even as far as one third into the book I wanted to believe it was one of the best books I had ever read, but by the end the push and pull of the pointlessly mundane against the pointlessly weird feels like it collapses in on itself. You probably have to be a specific type of person to immediately love this, or read it multiple times to get a handle on all the threads so that some sort of coherent structure emerges that is worth thinking about. At this point I'm not sure I could recommend reading it. --- Next on my list is 'Frontier' by Can Xue.

Ghost Story- Peter Straub. Quite the slog. Not overly impressed The action never really picks up but once the pieces start coming together it does get interesting. At least in a brooding and oppressive way.

Has anyone read any Dennis Lehane? Pattern Recognition was 10/10 really great. Would recommend. Reading this now for a light pulp break. Based on Robert E Howard but ohh so sloooow in the start. ![](https://i.imgur.com/XFLwvNs.jpeg)
