AFI Fest Final Day:
The Last to See Them - Deconstructionist home invasion thriller that would've worked better as a shorter student film
Babyteeth - Pretty good, but that ending is a BUMMER
Liberte - Walkout film of the fest. 19 people walked out. Movie wasn't good, but sitting in a crowded theater watching this was tight. It was basically 132 minutes of expelled libertines doing wild sex acts in the woods throughout the whole runtime. The one part of a libertine eating ass and saying "open the gates of hell" before doing it got a huge laugh in the theater.

Gonna go see Doctor Sleep tonight. Just remembered I have four free movie passes that all expire by the EOY so gotta start using 'em now. Theatre dropped Doctor Sleep literally the day I was gonna go, saw Ford Vs. Ferrari instead and loved it. Definitely a movie that begs to be seen in theatres with the racing, sound of engines, etc and I think it was Matt Damon's best performance in a bit. Which is not to say I think he's been weak in anything, just that he was terrific as Carroll Shelby. Whole cast is great, really, and it doesn't feel long at all despite being 150 minutes.

Knives Out was pretty easy to guess, but I still had fun nonetheless

Honestly, Dark Fate was a lot of fun. Is it a post MCU 2019 action flick? Sure. But, it has a pretty coherent narrative, solid characters and some totally insane set pieces (Iâm looking at you plane crash dam scene). Arnold's T-800 could've easily felt forced or obligatory but it didnât come across that way at all. I genuinely enjoyed seeing him onscreen this time around. Mackenzie Davis is a star and should be getting much, much more work. Hamilton and the newcomer were both fine and I enjoyed seeing how their stories intertwined in the end.
There was some cheesy dialogue but thatâs to be expected.
edit: Give me a Grace story set in the future and I am fucking on board!

MacKenzie Davis rules. The acting talent they had on Halt and Catch Fire with her, Kerry Bishe, Lee Pace, Toby Huss and Scoot McNairy is absolutely wild.

Halt and Catch Fire is one of the most underrated shows in the past few years. Like you said the acting was A+

That last season was an emotional roller coaster. Such a great show.
They have playlists on spotify for every season and the music is curated according to what each character would listen to. Good stuff.

Man the episode when Gordon died absolutely ruined me in a way only like one or two other episodes of TV ever have.

Man the episode when Gordon died absolutely ruined me in a way only like one or two other episodes of TV ever have. Man, that fucked me up. Dude got such a small window of true happiness in the end. I want to check out those playlists! The music was always so on point. Back to movies: finally checking out The Nightingale, seeing all this 4:3 in 2019 is giving me big time tube TV nostalgia.

Watched Booksmart last night, absolutely hysterical. Probably the funniest new movie since Death of Stalin. Also Billie Lourd is dynamite and needs to be in more movies.

the colour correct felt a bit off, but the production design made up for it for the most part. And ALL the natural light in interior scenes was blown out, but this was likely by choice.

Netflix also added The Body Remembers When the World Broke Open, a drama highlighting the complexities of motherhood, abusive relationships, and colonialism. Liked this one quite a bit.

Some of my favorite parts in The Irishman are the understated moments: How Russell plays Sheeran into okaying Hoffa to be whacked by giving him that special ring to be a made guy right before. So calculated.
Russellâs scoffing face at the idea that Hoffa was a âhigher upâ
Of course the door being left slightly open
De Niroâs facial change when then FBI guys at the end are trying to get him to confess. It goes from playful to srs when heâs said al he wants to say real quick.
âHe wonât need itâ ... âHe wonât need it,â - Angelo (Keitel)
