Also can't go wrong with Tarkovsky's filmography
Loveless is a current great Russian film

Come and See is a grueling experience... I have Mirror and Stalker I'll probably watch tonight. Came across this sci-fi movie as well and looks wild. lwlies.com/articles/kin-dza-dza-1986/I'm trying to steer a little away from a lot of the WW2 stuff.

I saw Uncut Gems last night and jesus fucking christ it wen't above and beyond my expectations(and I, like many of us in here, have been anticipating this movie for a couple of years now). Someone described it as an anxiety attack in film form and that's about right. The Safdie's found their niche after Heaven Knows What and just continue to build upon that with gritty characters & stories embodied by a city that's hard to find nowadays. The acting is unrivaled, Sandler in what has to be his best role to date, to Julia Fox(her first commercial film in what will undoubtedly be a long illustrious career) to fucking Kevin Garnett who showcased real chops. What it gives you and what it leaves you wanting makes this my movie of the year, which was hard to top after Parasite. I don't know, I have to see it again but the Safdie bros continue to just improve upon their craft and it's really cool to witness.

Come and See is a grueling experience... Janus is doing a restoration that's being released next year. I'm fucking stoked. I'll be seeing Waves on Sunday, judging by the trailers I'm prepared to cry like a baby.

Yorgos recently referred to Uncut Gems as "Robert Altman dipped in acid". He isn't far off.

The Dead Don't Die was a lot of fun. I feel like people expected a Zombieland but wen't for that weirdo 80's movie vibe. Had a great feel to it and some hilarious moments.

^I really liked The Dead Don't Die. It worked for me. Especially the ending.
I thought Good Time could pretty much be characterized by that also. Cant wait. A very weird Christmas movie lol.

Like all JJ's work, it still was a film that had all the little minuscule moments adding up to something almost whole by the end with the thingy coming down

Do you know if they’ll go Criterion or are there still rights issues? Waves is fantastic. I loved it.

I have six movie theatres within a half-hour drive of me (three Regal, two Bowtie, one independent) and not ONE of them is showing Uncut Gems. I'm gonna riot if that doesn't get picked up anywhere.

Also, speaking of grueling experiences, The Nightengale. Good god. That may have been a tougher watch than Irreversible and I truly didn't think that would ever be possible.

Since it's Janus Films it'll be only a matter of time before Criterion puts it out. Usually after it spends a few months on the theatrical circuit.

I've only seen the basic Russian film school movies... Alexander Nevsky Battleship Potemkin Andrei Rublev & Come and See, although its definitely not basic Honestly don't know much about Russian film, but does Andrey Zvyagintsev deserve to be on that list at this point? Elana, Leviathan, and Loveless are all great. I've got to check out more by him. I've had Come and See on my computer for at least a month but I know I need to be in the right place to watch it, and just haven't felt that recently.

Trailers kept saying the 13th so I didn't bother to see if it was being rolled out in select theatres then, just assumed it'd be everywhere.

What I don't get is why make them half person cat? When you could just make CGI cats. They were only human partly cause it was a play and not a movie.

Question for the thread: what is the most badly-wasted movie premise you can think of?
For me it might be Harold & Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay. Just typing out the title makes me laugh, but the movie sucked and was a missed opportunity just based off of the premise alone.

Jojo Rabbit is pretty good. I'm so excited for Uncut Gems next week. As a Star Wars fan, I overall was pretty just meh with Rise of the Skywalker. Most of the things I disliked were because The Last Jedi was so fucking bad.

Watched Uncut Gems and the Lighthouse today, both are probably my favorite movies of the year, especially the Lighthouse. Uncut Gems is so fucking stressful and annoying in a great way haha. Fans of Good Time will definitely love it. Really dope.
The Lighthouse is just..... a perfect flick in my eyes. Goddamn. Shit on every other horror movie this year.
