definitely considered Before Midnight, but haven't seen it since it came out and second-guessed myself other considerations: -Enemy -Drive -The Fighter all in all pretty happy with my list though midnight is fantastic, but sunset is in my top 5 of all time. ethan's performance in the last few minutes alone is absolutely sublime. Yeah it's clearly the best one (at least that's how it seems to me at this stage in my life, which seems relevant), I'd give the side-eye to anyone that said otherwise

Not necessarily the "best", but the ones that made the biggest impressions on me (no order):
Roma Good Time Fury Road Black Swan Shutter Island Nightcrawler Blue is the Warmest Color The Favourite Call Me by Your Name Elle
There are still a bunch of movies that I haven't seen yet that I imagine might make it on there.

No Tarantino and only a single Scorcese entry (and an offbeat one at that) on the lists on this page, which is kind of interesting to me
edit: forgot Shutter Island was Scorcese

Uncut Gems was good, but it wont be anywhere near my favorites of the year. Sandler carried this endurance test by being great and lending a true movie star turn. It was just too much at times, honestly. Comparing it to Good Time is apt, although I feel the two have much different chaotic energies.

Winter's Bone Kill List Lords of Salem A Field in England Enemy Tangerine Hell or High Water Nocturnal Animals Wind River Super Dark Times Good Time You Were Never Really Here Mandy
I could only narrow it down to 13 which I consider above everything else I've seen this decade.

I checked out Rojo cause I saw it on a few end of the year lists. A deadpan political satire that takes place during 1970s Argentina, I like it more and more as I think about it.

I watched Come And See tonight and I don't think I've been so emotionally moved by a movie before. Absolutely gut-wrenching. I felt like I was having a stroke the entire time. 10/10.

Watched Marriage Story last night and it was as good as people said but I didn't find it anywhere near as emotional.
Hear me out, not trying to be a hardo -- I've been fortunate to never see a divorce up close. Not my parents, grandparents, aunts or uncles, parents of close high school/college friends, anyone. I feel like that makes me a statistical anomaly but it also kept a lot of it from resonating as closely as I'm sure it does with anyone whose parents split or felt the ripple effects of things like that.

I thought Marriage Story was pretty disappointing considering the hype around it.

I feel like Uncut Gems didn’t deserve the hype. Especially Sandler’s performance. Don’t get me wrong the movie was really good, maybe even great. I thought his girlfriend, the dude from Atlanta/Sorry to Bother You, and his brother in law were much better performances. Probably would have preferred a few more crashes/depressive episodes out of Harry.

Little Women is good/fine. Its also messy as F. It gets going somewhere after the hour mark, has a few really standout moments. But I wasn’t into the super metafictional stuff at the end.
