I was looking at the Wikipedia entry for one shot films after seeing 1917 and saw that Bela Tarr had a 57 minute scene in his Macbeth adaptation. I considered watching his film for Satantango after reading the book, but then saw that it was 450 minutes long. I know this muchacho is supposed to be some kind of art film legend, but I'm not enough of a nerd to have seen anything by him. Anyone ever watch this muchacho's shit? The Turin Horse might be the most depressing movie I’ve seen.

Thirded. All his films are technically good but are very sparse and meandering with little real plot.

I watched Julie and Julia as light worknight movie. Meryl Streep killed it, and she was great with Stanley Tucci. The Amy Adams story line was a tire fire, though.
Watched Magnolia for the first time last night. Tom Cruise was fantastic. That movie came out in Dec. of 1999 and I can't think of a better movie to close out the 90's.

wen't to a 35mm screening of Freaked, it felt like a live action Ren & Stimpy episode. I read it was originally envisioned as a Texas Chainsaw Massacre style horror film that would've had The Butthole Surfers as the murdering family, would've been cool to see that. They had a Q+A with Alex Winter, Henry Rollins, John Hawkes, and many others. Paul Leary of The Butthole Surfers also played his portion of the score along to the movie.

STRIKE! aka ALL I WANNA DO is awesome. It’s a feminist slanted Rushmore with an ensemble, that came out at the exact same time that is every bit it’s equal. Weinstein buried it as unsellable. Kirsten Dunst, man, especially in the 90s and early 2000s, was so good.

Good call on 90s/00s Kirsten Dunst. I recently revisited Eternal Sunshine and she is just so lovely.
Movie has Rachel Leigh Cook also? Damn

RLC is unfortunately not a huge part of it, although she is the antagonist. Merritt Weaver is though, and she’s awesome. Gabby Hoffman is the big surprise too because she is hilarious and looks...not like she does now. She plays the Max Fisher type character.

Ahh yeah Merrit Weaver. I knew I recognized her.
I see Pete Campbell has always looked like a smug prick.

wanna hear more about this! Did you get rained on or anything? Haha, yes. I'd never done it before, so I was little surprised to sit down and see a "Water On/Off" button on my seat. They have seats blocked off in 4s that rumble and turn based on the film. There's like a puncher in the seat that thumps you whenever someone gets knocked over, air that comes over you for wind or a plane flying by, and a fog machine that replicates smoke on the screen. It was a little cold in the theater, so getting splashed with water then having air blown at you didn't make it very comfortable, but it was worth the $20 ticket for sure. That is fucking cool and wish i could do that. Instead of doing nothing but fucking remakes they could just do that with older movies.

I watched Midsommar over the weekend. Really did absolutely nothing for me. Awful dialogue out the gate, and the entire thing was like they read the wiki on Dionysus/Bacchus and tried to write a movie around it.

The original Wicker Man is one of the most unique horror movies ever filmed.
Recently watched Futureworld (1976), which is a sequel to Westworld, and like most sequels not as good. Recommended if you want to see a good campy retro style sci-fi flick like Logan's Run or whatever. Peter Fonda great as always.

Just saw The Last Movie. Bonkers, but also pretty self indulgent. While Dennis Hopper was well-intentioned with it's commentary on American imperialism in the media, his execution of its message didn't age well by portraying Peruvian citizens as not being able to understand that films are fiction. I read that Hopper's first cut of the film had more of a conventional narrative until Jodorowsky gave him shit for it and re-edited it and turned it into a Diet Jodorowsky film.

Finally caught Ad Astra, beautiful movie. Had a real hypnotic quality about it and those three scenes-that-became-action-scenes-out-of-nowhere really punctuated things well. One of Pitt's best performances for sure.
Also finally watched Inherent Vice -- awesome performance from Phoenix, loved the hazy vibe of the whole thing, and I would very much like to know Jack McCoy's daughter.

Color Out Of Space was fantastic and made me want to rewatch From Beyond immediately. Apparently this is the first in a trilogy that Stanley plans to direct, the second of which will be The Dunwich Horror...
fuck, I hope that happens.
I’m honestly shocked this movie hasn’t gotten more chatter, one of the best moviegoing experiences of the year for this dude.
All hail Nic Cage.
