Rewatched 'Thief'... so fucking good. With that & 'Manhunter', Mann was on his atmospheric, moody shit in the eighties. Obviously 'Heat' is a masterpiece but it's cool seeing him do so much before with Frank (James Caan) in the driver's seat 14 years prior. We see the lights above and their reflections from the wet streets, trapped in the tunnel, labyrinth, alongside Frank. Mann was doing wild shit with casting, filling out the peripheral of characters with irl thieves & cops. It's weird how he uncertain he is about the score by Tangerine Dream (at least in 2013 when being interviewed about it) he never worked with a group to fully score his movies again like that? He became more of a song guy. Fair enough. But the raw experimentation here is vivid, imaginative. He was in the booth with Tangerine Dream, fingers on the faders, mixing the music for the movie. Mann the auteur. Not sure why so many people adore 'Heat' and haven't seen 'Thief', mandatory viewing imho!

antipasto it's so fucking good! & also we have to remember that in 1981 an electronic score was fresh. I know we now associate the eighties with that type of sound but this was cutting edge at the time. Like Tangerine Dream said, orchestras can't replicate the sounds used in movies but with their synths & electronic setups they could sample the sounds of drills and utilize them in building their soundscape.

these are often good but this one is actually entertaining because she rocks and is hyper-irish - should have won the oscar for Banshees

Man, I loved everything about Challengers*. The story, the score, the camera shots. Felt like I was on a rollercoaster towards the end. Now I want a churro. *minus not seeing Patrick's piece

Watched Kikujiro last night, which is just a live-action Miyazaki film directed by Takeshi Kitano. Loved it.

We caught Battle Royale at the theater ln. I don’t think I’d seen it since I was a kid and it was funnier than I remembered. Kinda confused on the ending but I will consult with the wiki page

Battle Royale is so good. That scene where the girl has the arrow in her neck always gives me a chill up my spine.

Caught the 9pm showing of Alien last night (Tuesday) at my local indie and had the pleasure of being completely alone with my snuck-in deers (I buy one to start [support your indies!!!]), microdose of shrooms, and vaporizing pen of dense nuggs of fat buds. Needless to say:

Challengers indeed rocked real good. Movie in a “studio director’s” hands would have been formulaic straight to Hulu boring but total madman Luca delivers just a totally engrossing spectacle here.

In preparation of the soon to be released 'Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes' I rewatched 'Rise...' (2011) which was mid... & tonight 'Dawn...' (2014) which is still excellent. Matt Reeves improves the series tenfold. Good decision to kill Franco in the first movie (he was thriving on Planet Of The Mid.) I was trying to pinpoint why this sequel was so good and I realized: It feels like a James Cameron movie. Ready for 'War...' (2017) now *monkey with guns on horseback emoji*

Just finished up Arcadian. I liked it. Nothing mind blowing but it’s pretty cool and worth a watch.

Seeing Alien in theaters would be sick. I'd actually prefer to finish Aliens at the theater tho. I prefer it and the cast.

Checked out The Plot Against Harry on The Criterion Channel. Very witty, misanthropic, and funny. The Coen Brothers would be lying if they said this film wasn't an influence on A Serious Man.

Surviving the Game rocks. Recc'd for all the early 90's unhinged action heads.

Took 150 mg of gummies and saw Hundreds of Beavers last night. I would recommend seeing that movie if it's playing near you.
