Avengers Endgame is 3 hrs and the average marvel movie ballooned to like 2 hr 20 minutes and more in recent years. Dont need to be a cinephile for those

Godfather 2 Titanic Wolf of Wall Street Gladiator Bravehart Shawshank Redemption The Shining Casino Schindler’s List Man on Fire Skyfall
All 2 1/2 hours or longer and famously only enjoyed by deranged cinephiles. I think he’s got a point boys.

I enjoyed furiosa. I think hemsworth could have gone even more ham but I don’t know the source material. ATJ was good. Slick looking movie, less noticeable CGI than I feared, did not see fury road in theaters so this was satisfying
Previews are wild man. Twisters, Beetlejuice, The Crow. Been like this but we’re straight huffing nostalgia fumes. The Crow was only slightly nu metal but v zoomer. The Crow in linen slacks

Missing 1982-solid paranoia politcal thriller with a Jack Lemmon against type casting and Sissy Spacek looing like a dish in some scenes. The gunfire in the background to remind you of the coups effect and to keep you tense along with some Vangelis synths

Same director, absolutely phenomenal political thriller about how authoritarianism takes hold.

Movies in general are way too long I have to say, while movies like Dune and Furiosa are over 2 I get it, they're dramatic epics, but don't tell me Fall Guy, an action comedy needs to be 2 hours, that's ridiculous. Not everything needs to have the kitchen sink in them, once the Fast and Furious movies wen't over 2 hours I knew we were doomed.

I'll enjoy Bela Tarr's Santatango while complaining that comedies shouldn't be over 2 hours

Hobbs and Shaw felt like five hours. We split it up and still didn’t finish it

The art of the 90-minute movie seems gone and most horror or comedy REALLY should not be over like 105 mins.

Not everything needs to have the kitchen sink in them, once the Fast and Furious movies wen't over 2 hours I knew we were doomed. this is how I feel. I agree with IGYP that of course pacing, a well crafted story, etc. all help with longer runtimes not even being noticeable and im down to chill through one when it is deserving. But it is undeniable that there is a recent trend for even just fluff, mindless fun flicks type shit to gravitate to 2.5+ hours. it can be a drag when a movie that you KNOW would be a fun watch if edited and condensed properly ends up feeling like a full evening chore to get through. I think that is what frustrates me the most is feeling like potentially great cult classics are suffering for the sake of directors/producers/studios/whoever audience testing the fuck out of these things to try and cover as much targets as they can. you wind up with forgettable shit.

I legit get excited to see a movie that's 90-105 minutes.
Recently watched Appleseed and it was so refreshing. Confusing and weird, but refreshing.

Godzilla vs Kong: TNE was like 100 minutes, shorter running times with a coherent story can be done for action / sci-fi. Comedies have no business what so ever being longer than 90 minutes.

With summer break upon us (or just me), starting with a bang with the director’s cut of Heaven’s Gate. Hoping I don’t hate it. It was filmed where I live. Needed to wait because I want 3 1/2 uninterrupted hours to fully embrace it or hate it. Daughter does three days of daycare over the summer, so I have three days of 8-5 movie watching for the next 10 weeks.

In LA the American Cinematheque is doing Bleak Week, a festival "that spotlights some of the greatest films from around the world that explore the darkest sides of humanity, as well as some of the bleakest points in human history." A couple nights ago I got to see 'We Need To Talk About Kevin' with Q&A w/ director Lynne Ramsay and tonight 'Synecdoche, New York' with writer/director Charlie Kaufman. Neither were... weak ;-) ;-) ;-)

Saw Dredd (2012). It was the first movie I've seen all the way through in a while. It was fucking awesome.

Synecdoche, New York was better upon a revisit. wen't to the Ghosts...of the Civil Dead screening for bleak week where John Hillcoat did a surprise Q+A. Pretty effective mood piece and Nick Cave gives a wild performance.

Nice to see Glen Powell looking like he’s having a good time in Hit Man. I imagine it might be the only good movie he does in the next couple of years.
