real shit, is cinema dead? I dunno, but it really doesn’t bother me that much either way. Lots of movies from the last 100 years I’ve never seen. Also still a lot of super talented upstarts making great (and great looking) movies on very small budgets. If like 70% of big budget movies tank from now on, ehhhh.

For Friday the 13th, I’d say…
4, 1, 6, 2, 3, Freddy vs Jason…(fuck the rest but) Jason X, 7, 8, Jason Goes to Hell, 5

Crystal Lake Memories is (ahem) 6 hrs and 40 mins long, detailing the making of all of them. Very recommended. Isn’t too reverent, and gives you a good idea about how slapdash the whole operation was trying to sustain the gravy train.

The shot of killer in the cabin door frame early on in the first one is an all time great horror movie moment and shot.

The Thing’s commentary track is 🐐’d Pretty crazy how John Carpenter movies can look so good or so shitty. Just in terms of shot composition and basic skill, his bad movies are so far from his good ones.

Adventureland is eternally backed. Any movie that starts with Bastards of Young and then later on plays Husker Du is good enough for me. Also Bill Hader losing his shit on the tough guys who fuck with Eisenberg and Stewart is always funny haha

Also, while not a movie, but damn perfect for summer vibes, Red Oaks on Prime. Great cast and easy as hell to fly through. Fits well with coming of age a la Adventureland (another solid summer watch), Snack Shack, The Way, Way Back (also a very solid summer watch). You just like it cuz you were in it. Honestly though, I’ve watched the series and it’s great. The finale was a little meh, but you’re right about the cast and summer vibes.

I watched Tropic Thunder and it might be the best parody movie I've seen in a very long time! First time? It's the best comedy of that decade. Above 'Black Dynamite'?

Friday 5 is the sleaziest, so that makes it the best one.

Come on, it’s got Ethel and enchiladas. Hilarious. It’s just so literally dirty and gross. And I mean, when I think of the movie, I’m not thinking of the woods, I’m thinking of a lot of dirt getting kicked up with some trees in the background. That hick ass bitch making food is gross. Super fly sexy hair guy almost shitting his pants just wasn’t amusing to me in that movie. But could’ve been in another one I think. Would’ve been great if Cripsin Glover popped up in all of them as a different character. It’s interesting that as soon as they started their shitty attempt to dive into character arcs and deeper characterizations with the leads for 5-8, most of the supporting characters just got worse and more comical. The first four actually had “oh fuck” moments cuz some of the characters seemed real.

First time? It's the best comedy of that decade. I wouldn’t put it above Wet Hot American Summer, but it’s definitely good I mean the fact that it is an actual big hoywood production and even quasi action movie and wasn't cut down at the knees and still plays close I'd put it above WHAS and I love that movie.

That movie was really important for me when I was in high school, but I rewatched it a year or two ago and it had definitely lost a little bit of it's shine for me.

RRR was unhinged and totally worth the length (although i couldn't watch it in one sitting).

I liked the Suspiria remake well enough. Did the things a remake should do. Takes the general idea and pushes it in new, far reaching directions. I watched the original the other day and it still holds up as one of, if not the most beautifully shot horror movie ever. There's more atmosphere and dread just in the first 5 minutes with the cab driving in the rain and the ominous music playing than the entirety of most horror films. The remake was decent, but hopefully it just gets people to watch the original.

I am finally getting around to watching S3 of Twin Peaks, so I rewatched the original series and today I rewatched Fire Walk with Me, and let me tell you what, people who like the show but don't like that movie are fucking bozos. Honestly a top 3 favorite Lynch movie for me.
