Janet Planet is a low-key banger. It snuck up on me the same way that Aftersun did. Gonna this up later tonight, thanks for the rec. Excited for 'Maxxxine' this weekend... more excited for 'Kill' though? Mia Goth, if you're reading this, please kick me in the head. I need your foot pressed up against my skull. I want brain damage. I don't ever want to remember anything else other than that moment <3

Pearl fucking rules, loved that movie. Need to revisit X. Currently trudging my way through In A Violent Nature and it has some of the worst acting I've seen in a long time, holy fuck

damn, Evil Does Not Exist out. Gonna have to watch them when I'm in a sufficiently depressed mood. My neighbours whom I dogsit for have an incredible tv/sound setup and are going away for like a month. So I got the dogs for a while and a good backlog of movies.
Evil Does Not Exist
In a Violent Nature
Longlegs will hopefully drop by then
fuckin pumped

Johnny Handsome was a mega dud for me, usually I love Walter Hill tough guy movies, but this one was bad front to back.

Kickback seems pretty in line with his style of film making. I wonder if he's into other bands or just them because of their themes, etc.

Also: I watched 'The Decline Of Western Civilization' and its sequel, 'The Metal Years' back to back... which do y'all think is better?
Learning about some of the manufactured aspects of both are disappointing but I guess if you never find out about them it doesn't matter haha.
Penelope Spheeris is such a god damn legend. Unfortunately her other eighties scripted movies are not good ): I ended up watching all of them..

I wonder if he's into other bands or just them because of their themes, etc. I'm sure both worlds came together due to similar themes at the time. I've always heard stories that him and Stephen knew each other. Seeing Anora on Tuesday, yeeeeeeeeee

Nice! I saw 'Janet Planet' last night. I see what you mean with the 'Aftersun' comparison... retrospective of one's childhood during a specific time/place. I don't think 'Janet Planet' hit the emotional highs though but because of my age it felt a little too nostalgic (in a good way!) at times. The 'Clarissa Explains It All' theme song resonated in a way I wouldn't have guessed. Loved the colors, the framing of shots, etc. The pacing of scenes and their edits reminded me of Éric Rohmer. Not sure if that was intentional or not. "Dick, tick, die" & the part where she talks about living in hell were my two favorite lines. Great young actress.

I caught Horizon Chapter 1 today and boy do I have some thoughts. It felt like Lonesome Dove but only the introductions to every character and storyline and for 3 hrs straight. Some of it I loved and some of it I was just ambivalent towards. To say the pacing and editing were all over the place is an understatement. I can only assume the standing ovation at Cannes was because they were just so happy it was finally over.

I wouldn't look into the standing o at Cannes, I believe they do it for every movie.

I thought Maxxxine fucking ruled. Loads of fun! Maybe stumbled for a quick sec towards the climax but who fucking cares, it was a blast.
