I don't think there are *spoilers* here but if you're sensitive about that: don't read.
I saw LONGLEGS tonight. I wouldn't say I was disappointed but I also wouldn't call it a good movie. Felt so formal with how it was shot... I can see why it's getting the 'Alan Wake' comparisons... but with movies it fell somewhere between 'Cure' and 'Silence Of The Lambs' (and 'Manhunter' by proximity I suppose) but doesn't touch any of those movies for a few reasons. 1. The Satan stuff was soooo much less interesting than the atmospheric evil nature of 'Cure'. By the end, the "Hail Satan" felt as evil as when John Darnielle says it in that Mountain Goats song. Couldn't believe the exposition dump in the third act. Gross. But not in the way horror movies are supposed to disgust us. 2. I didn't feel the "gravity" of the FBI here in the same I did as with 'The Silence Of The Lambs' (or 'Manhunter'.) Felt more like a smaller local police department. Maybe it was a budget issue? Clarice Starling (Jodie Foster)'s journey and the opposition she faced as a woman in the FBI felt much more visceral. Here... the girl asks her about being a woman and it just felt on the nose minus any feeling. I love Nicolas Cage, my favorite actor of all time, but it felt like he was too restrained in his performance here or something? I never felt like he was going to flip out, do something violent, scary, at any given moment. It was more silly than anything. Not sure how much of that was direction or his acting but I didn't love it. A little bit of a gripe is with what's becoming hack... someone smashing their face into a desk. It shook me in 'Hereditary'. It jolted me in 'Talk To Me'. But here... (and going forward?) let's move past it. The reveal of his face was gnarly but it just feels overdone now.

Such a genuinely iconic performance. I also love that we have a SECOND Cronenberg that's gonna be making bangers for the next few decades. So blessed.

LONGLEGS was dope. Cage is cooky but plays legit insane so good here. I believed him. Maika is STILL that girl. Theres a few things I think could've been done to make it a tad more thrilling, but as a90s psycho thriller, it provided.

I was really into Gasoline R.ainbow. It exuded youthful optimism and felt like a genuine adventure. Absolutely loved the way it was shot.

Been avoiding the thread since I haven"t seen Maxxxine or Longlegs yet... seeing Maxxxine tomorrow, finally!!
Almost done with the Clones of Bruce boxset, one recurring actor that pops up in almost every movie is Bolo fucking Yeung. Absolutely love that dude and it's cool seeing him when he was so young, just a total beast.
Can't get this song out of my head:

Iβm think Iβm a 6/10 on Longlegs. Enjoyed how it was shot, but there was little about it that I found unsettling. Creeped out I was not. A bit disjointed, too. Performances were mostly great tho.

Hereditary is the standard I hold any modern supernatural horror to. For me, itβs still the top of the game.

Yeah, Longlegs was fine. I like the direction it takes, but it was also predictable.

alright, I've tuned out of Dune 2. Started off really strong, turned into the same thing Dune 1 did by the time the third or fourth "huge epic" thing happened. Just a series of barely connected vignettes. Feel like Puff Daddy gonna come down from the ceiling in a shiny jacket and duet with Ma$e or Eve or something

Longlegs was fun if you don't care for much plot or character development. Great atmosphere, directing, acting, and everything else though. Some truly bizarre character decisions to create interesting moments but hard to ignore very odd choices. Enjoyed the experience but not a horror classic like it was marketed to be.

Bikeriders is considerably better than I thought it would be. Timeline moves along quickly, definitely appeals to a short attention span.

Long Legs was great. Really bizzare choices. Agreed not a classic but very much like barberian, where itβs better to go in knowing very little
