Really wish the negativity around LongLegs wasn't true. I've been itching for a good spook and i wound up laughing and scratching my head instead.
Cuckoo better spook me

Oddity was spooky and worth seeing if it's playing near you (extremely limited near me), I liked it more than longlegs, but it was also more spooky horror than thriller

Yeah, I like Oddity more as well
I'm seeing Cuckoo in 35mm a couple of days before it comes out. I really liked the director's first film Luz, which felt like a stage play directed by Zuwalksi. My friends who've seen Cuckoo have been split on it. Both sides seem to agree that it doesn't make much sense but also agree that it's pretty bonkers.

Seated for Twisters and good christ on the cross this is the worst collection of trailers I’ve seen in a long-ass time. I wanna get a refund for sitting through these alone.
EDIT: Now a trailer for a Wizard of Oz remake with Ariana Grande? Man get me the fuck out of here.

Unrelated but kind of related because it’s a trailer playing RN but — they’re doing a US remake of Speak No Evil? THAT MOVIE CAME OUT TWO YEARS AGO WHAT ARE WE FUCKING DOING HERE?!?
Also the OG squandered two brilliant acts with the worst and dumbest third act of any movie I’ve seen in 37 years. Fuck that stupid movie so, so, so much.

Even when we try to arrive just before our movie starts, still getting a bunch of previews (that shit is so overkill these days). But, yeah, somehow we’ve managed to catch this trailer four times in the past five or six weeks. I almost cannot contain my silence because I get so unhinged/unreasonably apoplectic by the trailer and that it’s already being remade. I don't know of a single movie that’s pissed me off more in the past 10+ years, maybe ever, than Speak No Evil. I guess given the way it endures with me, it’s super effective. But fuck that movie forever. Infuriating to no end.

One of my favorite modern philosophers, Jon Bois, once said something like there is a certain mid-wit disposition to know how dumb you are but it allows for a sense of wonder and enjoyment. Venn diagram that chart for all movie dorks. We all loved Twisters.

Usually the bumpers and trailers are 24 minutes long now for AMC and Showcase so you should literally be there 24:00 minutes after posted showtime.

Regal has been running 25-30ish minutes of trailers lately
We can never time the shit right and the whole theater is always groaning when another green or red screen pops up
It’s so irritating

Takes 2 seconds and most staff know because of the turnover between cleaning the theater and projection timing. Might sound dorky but if it's that infuriating you can save 5-25 minutes of your time by asking a simple question of the staff.

I don’t disagree with that, but I purchase my tickets well ahead of time, and asking them, at least living here because none of those phones go to an actual person, requires me to be at the theater
For a period our online purchased tickets would tell us the movie’s end-time, but that hasn’t been the case for like a year
So, I guess, if I’m already there, I’m probably just going to head in versus hanging in the lobby or finding a bar next door (which is my alcoholic ass habit I’m trying to break)

Do I go see Thelma rn? Is it good? Rent it on Prime or some shit if you have it. It’s 9.99 I think. It’s fine. Not hilarious, but definitely humorous. Some genuinely heartwarming moments as well. That said, a little sad/scary if you’re someone who fears the thought of being alone and/or losing your faculties in old age.

Ever. I can't see it being that big of a nuisance to sit through trailers and get mad about them than not knowing what to do with yourself for 10 minutes when you KNOW that shit is gonna be at least 20 minutes.

I think that’s what we are getting tho, you used to be able to gauge it pretty easily. If we got there 15 minutes into the official start time, maybe got a trailer, but usually just the theater’s dumb little advertisement.
We’ve been getting there 20 minutes in and still getting almost 10 minutes of additional trailers.
It’s become harder to estimate. Do we get there 15, 20, 25 minutes late? Who knows! You’re still going to see shit you don’t want to, lol.
But I feel you entirely. They just keep moving the goal posts tho. At least it seems that way.

I sighned up for AMC A-List with some promo and you can see 3 movies a week any format and since it has either been hot as hell or storming I'll go double feature when I can. It's a mixed bag but at AMC it is ALWAYS at least 15 minutes. Depends on the movie and format. I saw National Anthem and it was about 20 minutes. Twister in Dolby pushed almost 35 minutes. Movies that are being phased out will always have the bumpers but less trailers for quick turn around. IMAX/Dolby you might as well pack a lunch. Again, even if you show up early or on time, ask the staff because they know 100% and it's no biggie to them. They pop in the hall 5 minutes before the movie is even done to start cleaning for the next showing. I only know this because if I see the Smile 2 trailer again I will become homicidal.

It’s Regal by me and now it’s usually 10 minutes of commercials (don’t get me fucking started) and 15 minutes of trailers so I try to get there 20 minutes late. Today though I still got smoked with like 15 minutes of trailers for movies I wouldn’t watch for free, hungover on my couch.

My issues are always at Regal, never AMC.
Thanks for the rec, Ian. Appreciated.
And, yeah, Twisters was a good fucking time. Dumb as hell, characters just as likable as the first, maybe even more, nothing new beyond sick CGI, and it was perfect.
Awesome movies don’t have to be “good” movies. That shit scratched a movie itch I’ve been chasing for a while.

That shit scratched a movie itch I’ve been chasing for a while. Honestly it really did. Super likable characters, well paced, killer visuals and you’ve got yourself a great fuckin’ movie. Also LOVED that scene at the rodeo; tonally very horror movie and it worked so well.

It's probably the best domestic disaster film since Greenland and before that, probably the 90's? Hit every mark and loved the way they handled the romance based around the love of the game. Never even showing the kiss.
