It's probably the best domestic disaster film since Greenland and before that, probably the 90's? Hit every mark and loved the way they handled the romance based around the love of the game. Never even showing the kiss. The no kiss was a great choice. I wen't in with zero expectations beyond just hoping to be entertained. It delivered start to finish. A lot of friends from home can’t see it, won’t see it. My sister and BIL are a couple of folks in that boat. Their PTSD is too much. And, don’t get me wrong, I think going through what we did in Joplin was actually the worst day of my life (and that’s taking my Dad, best friend, and all four grandparents into consideration), but... It was just so unbelievable and straight up horrific the things we saw both immediately and in the first few days after. Shit I’d love to forget. But my weird ass loved it. My wife did, too.

Even if they were only short nods about the commercialization and blah blah YouTubers and carpet baggers, I loved the swerve showing the aftermath of those communities post-tornado and how they treated the chasers, real estate developers and scientists in their reactions. Been through plenty of hurricanes but you always have a warning. Tornadoes are way fucking scarier. The sirens, color of the sky and how fast they come on are infinitely more terrifying. Did a good job showing that immediacy. People forget how bad Joplin was and how FAST it was. Can't blame em for not wanting to see anything like that again. I still think the original is better but Twisters is a must see Summer watch.

Been trying to watch more Nico Mastorakis films and watched The Naked Truth. It's what happens when a moron tries to remake Some Like It Hot. So aggressively unfunny that I had a lot of fun watching it. I'm not sure how I could have that make sense. His sense of humor is certainly unique and there is an absurd amount of random cameos. Mastorakis is truly in his own world and I respect it.

It's like Blow Out of executed like a moronic 80s beach comedy. Dumb and fun.

I liked Twisters but it definitely felt like a big budget Hallmark movie at times.
Saw Deadpool & Wolverine and the CGI fight scenes were super wonky. It was fine overall I guess, I stood up in my seat due to one cameo but ultimately felt all of them were wasted.

Watched Furiosa recently and obviously the world building and action scenes were great. I wasn't totally sure how I felt about the ending -- initially I thought there was too much talking and that Mad Max had never really been that blatant with its messaging. That said, I realize now that she barely spoke the entire movie and that this wasn't technically a "Mad Max" movie. Plus, I was semi high and falling asleep, so take that for what it's worth.
Currently watching Lady Snowblood and holy shit... Going to finish this up tonight and will start the sequel right after.

Maximum Overdrive last night. Its hilarious that every letterboxd review mentions how ripped on cocaine Stephen King was making that movie that his people staged an intervention for him afterwards. What a mess of a movie. Did laugh a few times though.

loads of self styled Men that under their breath still call people faggots hysterically cheering & hell yeah-ing the gayest movie of the 21st century
guy walking out post credits: "remember when trump said pussy"
not just a perplexing connection, but one of disconnection, of massive situational misunderstanding, the type that leads one to cheer cameos of half interested actors saying famous lines for the lol's
(channing was funny)

I really want Trap to rock, but it’s impossible to trust MNS. And all his films always have review embargoes, which never leaves much room for confidence.

Just popped some shroom gummies. Gonna finish this whiskey, rip the pen, and head into Twisters (deer and popcorn in hand). Expecting nothing but enjoyment.

To be fair, that's been my standard flick mix for a bit.
Movie rocked. Powell can handle the Brad Pitt roles. DEJ gives me MEW vibes. By far the biggest crowd I've seen in a long time for a Wednesday night showing two weekends post-open. Last minute date nights before school starts up in two weeks? Probs.

The Straight Story - a perfectly lovely and not weird or disturbing David Lynch film about an old man who rides his tiny beater tractor from Iowa to Wisconsin to see his sick brother
not sure why i never heard of it but really enjoyed this one - spiritual predecessor to films like Nebraska, Lucky, and Thelma (though haven't seen yet)
definitely still Lynchian but subdued, and turns out it was released by Disney lol

love this movie and love Meiko Kaji!!!!!!!! Total badass babe If looks could kill. Might watch it twice just to focus on the facial expressions. And to say that Tarantino was "influenced" by Lady Snowblood is a stretch. Damn near lifted the whole thing.

I really want Trap to rock, but it’s impossible to trust MNS. And all his films always have review embargoes, which never leaves much room for confidence. I used my last free credit of the week on it this evening. It was... an MNS movie. The first half hour is like a Bollywood nepo music festival of a literal concert for his daughter. She stinks so bad at acting. It's definitely a mid tier MNS but I enjoyed it for the set pieces and angles. Could've done more with it but man... Josh Hartnett. I cannot overstate how talented he is and how he single handedly carried the film. It's stupid with all sorts of typical nonsense but he is truly rockin' out here. Alison Pill is in it briefly and she was great as always. I'd give it a go for free or if ya got nothing better to do. It was hot as fuck here so I gave it a go. Had fun and that's all I expected.
