The River Wild rocks so much I JUST watched this the other night! Saw it on Netflix and never even heard of it before. What a banger cast, 93' Boston, beautiful shots and pretty gripping. They used to make little movies like this that are such a joy. Meryl Streep is so hot in it. |

Streep is fine as hell. Awesome cast. Gorgeous vistas. Packs solid tension/thrills. Young John C. Riley. Etc. One of my favorites.
Wish I could watch it for the first time again.

Cuckoo kicked ass. What a wild ride. I keep seeing a lot of mentions of “too weird, what was happening?!” but I didn’t find it hard to follow whatsoever. Dan Stevens rules forever. Even though Longlegs made a shit ton of money for them I think Cuckoo was the better film and they probably should have put more promotion behind it. The Guest is one of my favorite films. It's so fucking fun. Gonna see Didi and Cuckoo tomorrow and am pumped. If someone doesn't like The Guest, that's how I know I can't fuck with them. |

Watched 'Cuckoo' last night. I appreciated how they didn't go full on explanation like 'Longlegs' did. Dan Stevens was great. Wish it had gotten weirder by the end. Liked it... thought the score was sick. I don't think it's a spoiler but Is it a German thing? Early on someone pukes in the hotel giftshop place and nobody goes to get a mop or clean it up? So bizarre. |

There was just that New York Times piece about the dude who has regret about having a kid, then it turns out she’s 18 months old or some shit. I hated being a parent for a while too, just wait it out motherfucker. If you’re not a mom, the chemicals aren’t necessarily pumping. |

Continued my bad-ass Japanese lady movie binge and followed up with Onibaba (1964), which also fucking ruled. Those grasslands were easily one of my favorite parts. Also weird to think there's less than 10 people in the entire movie.
Mistakenly followed that up with Funny Games (1997). I had wanted to continue a trend of horror movies, but that was not what I was looking for. Not a bad movie, but I'm not watching that shit again. And I'm not sure I ever really needed to.
Switching that up to watch The Lure (2015). I'm only 30 min into it, but it's a good palette cleanser. I will say -- 1) those girls look too young to feel comfortable watching all the nudity, 2) I have problems watching stylized movies from countries I'm not that familiar with (I don't know when stuff is supposed to look weird vs. just looking normal for something non-American), and 3) my background is Polish and I keep seeing people that look like family in the background. Super fun so far.

I watched 'Offside' last night because of this. An instant classic for me. Iranian girls aren't allowed into a football stadium but try nonetheless. An all timer sports movie. Jafar Panahi is one of the best to ever do it. I also watched 'Terrifier' (2016) last night... no fun to be had, just mean spirited violence. Not even sure if there was suspense? Not for me. Seeing 'Alien Romulanus' tonight as a double feature with the original, 'Alien', stoked. |
