Just realized I didn’t do the 2020s. I’ve honestly not seen a whole lot of horror from the last few years that knocked me out like my favorite of the last decade, but four that come to mind:
Speak No Evil Last Night in SoHo (I know this film didn’t connect with a lot of people, and I get it, but I really dig it) Pearl The Medium

60’s- Two Thousand Maniacs 70’s- Texas Chainsaw/ Strange Vice of Mrs. Wardh/ Last House on the Left/ Beyond the Darkness 80’- Cannibal Holocaust 90’s- Audition 00’s- May or Martyrs 10’s- The Witch 20’s- probably Possessor
The 70’s are easily the best decade for horror. There’s so many others I could have listed. The best of grimy, sleazy shit from the US, Spain and Titaly. Insane

Horror is a suuuuuper fickle genre and I rarely ever go into any one with expectations of actually being scared or seeing some cinematic masterpiece. I'm doing 3 picks and an honorable mention/wild card recommendation. I'm so down for a film thread horror discussion outside of the horror thread because a lot of our tastes do tend of overlap. Leaving so much off this list but kind of going with movies I enjoy, actually rewatch and not always the best. 1960's: Night of the Living Dead, The Last Man on Earth, Comedy of Terrors (Honorable Mention: Targets) 1970's: Dawn of the Dead, The Legend of Boggy Creek, Last House on the Left (Honorable Mention: Duel) 1980's: The Thing, The Blob, Monster Squad (Honorable Mention: The Stepfather) 1990's: Exorcist 3, In The Mouth of Madness, Cure (Honorable Mention: Fire in the Sky) 2000's: The Hills Have Eyes, Pulse, Trick R' Treat, Dawn of the Dead (Honorable Mention: Pontypool) 2010's: Starry Eyes, Tales of Halloween, The Battery (Honorable Mention: Grave Encounters) 2020's: The Empty Man, Pearl, Watcher, (Honorable Mention: The Wolf of Snow Hollow) Wouldn’t have really thought of Targets as horror (you can make the argument, just wouldn’t have been my inclination) but god DAMN what a banger of a movie. Love the mention of Watcher, too. That movie deserved way more love and buzz than it got.

I'm here for Event Horizon and Cloverfield props. Love both of those dearly.
Definitely said this before but IGYP is the only poster, let alone person, who has seen Miracle Mile that I know of. I put it up there with Day After and Threads level Nuclear War Mount Rushmore movie status.
Everything you love about Safdie Bros movies is all right there and I won't rest until all Film Board Bros watch it.

Cusack is so perfect in the role and it genuinely scared and unnerved me more than anything else I’ve ever seen. One the times that song starts on the alarm, fuck, I can feel my heart jump just thinking about it. Also think Samuel L with “…..it’s just an evil fucking room” is some of the most perfect line delivery ever in a movie.

Miracle Mile has been on my list for a while after hearing Kevin Smith rave about it in an interview (the dude is a cornball but I love hearing him talk about non comic book movies).

It's horror adjacent in my mind because of how scary mass shooting events are. They're psychological case studies and don't see why a slasher serial killer like Maniac/Henry Portrait fits but mass shooters are iffy. There are more artsy depictions like Blue Caprice about the DC Sniper but Targets hits on a very visceral weird level that was always uneasy for me, especially for the 60's. Watcher was super good and Maika forever over here.

Would this be considered the equivalent of a bottle episode, but just a movie? Not enough of a cinephile to know different terms, but it’s so well executed, and that’s what I’d call it. Super good, gives you the legit creeps, well worth folk’s time. I need to give it a rewatch.

ESPECIALLY for the time, when what was being depicted didn’t happen in America. Must have been an absolute trip to see that on screen.

Alex Essoe rules in it. Feels like a Lynch extended universe. Again, another example of a dog shit trailer but wildly fun movie that was forgotten that I think the thread would appreciate come spooky season. Comment section actually comes through on the hype.

So yes absolutely; though in movie parlance you’d call it a chamber film, where everything takes place in one small location. I was looking at it in terms of being super creative as a zombie movie but TBH you’re 100% right that it’s creative in terms of being a chamber movie too. I can’t think of another where so much of the narrative is off-screen and delivered via radio broadcast like that.

My two favorite decades of horror are the 80s and the 2010s. I think my millennial ass might give the edge to the 2010s.
60s: night of the living dead 70s: the exorcist 80s: the thing 90s: ringu 00: 28 days later 10s: hereditary 20s: barbarian
no shame in my normie list

wonderful lists everyone - just watched Clive Barker's Lord of Illusion the other night and while it certainly doesn't qualify as best of the '90s, it features an absolutely horrific (in a good way) and probably one of the best horror villain performances of the '90s by Daniel von Bargen (aka George's boss from Seinfeld)

It has rewatch value for little tidbits with the set and utilize that aspect soooo well. You should watch Talk Radio by Oliver Stone with Eric Bogosian if you want that radio narrative. It was originally a stage play with Bogosian based on a real life story. You'd dig it but don't look into it anymore than that. Super up your alley.
