Watched God Told Me To, without knowing it was considered a cult classic. Thought it suffered from lack of focus, not enough character moments and interpersonal tension, and goofy scenes. Didn’t really like it.

I know Miami Vice has been heavily re-assessed and it gets a lot of love now. I never saw it when it came out. I dont get it. You can explain the advances in digital tech to me all day that Mann used but visually it doesn't look good. Also some straight-up very fake-looking backgrounds.
As with Faces, I struggle with Cassavetes, this is my 5th directorial effort by him ive seen. Only one I really loved (A Woman Under the Influence.) Gena Rowlands is great in all of them and if it weren't for her I'd probably be harsher.
