The opening to the first Scream movie is one of the best things to ever happen in my lifetime. Co-sign. That scene (whole movie, really) single handedly made me the horror fan I am today.

I’ve only seen the first 2 screams I think, and it’s been so long. Definitely need to give them a rewatch- I really love Wes craven’s other stuff

i really hated Rebel Ridge. plot was asinine, coward writers couldn’t just have him light up a sheriff’s department. “well lets make another deal” (cops get beaten up) “okay we’re gonna make one more deal” (more cops get batman takedowns) - so fuckin dumb. and then at the end of the movie, who saves the protagonist from the bad cops? the good cops! sooo fuckin dumb. they really just need to make DORNER

And no Macon Blair? The lead was great. But I dunno, it just didn’t hit with me. I was waiting for something fucking crazy to happen…nope. I have friends who loved it, but they’re like online social Justice warriors. Like….okay. I’m a real life movie lover and that shit was pretty weak.

About to watch Wolfs (new Clooney and Pitt) on apple. Because fuck it, it’s probably kinda fun. I thought the new episode of The Penguin was coming out tonight, but nuh uh.

There’s just a lot of power in a whodunnit with people dying like every 10 mins. Good formula for a slasher franchise. When the killer is Michael Myers every time, the attention wanes during lot of scenes.

Arguing about a rewrite Netflix film is about as pointless as me right now posting that Azrael is also a blender film that was enjoyable.
Now that I think about it, posting stinks and can't imagine getting mad at a movie. You're the dumb dumb that paid time and/or money to watch something you knew you weren't going to enjoy anyway.

The opening to the first Scream movie is one of the best things to ever happen in my lifetime. That and the opening to When A Stranger Calls (1979) prob the best horror openings. The Stranger opening could just have been its own short film and would have been perfect, rest of the movie loses me some but genuinely a terrifying open. Perfect 20 mins, and a clear influence on Scream

I won't defend that film other than fun but I will defend Saulnier.
Me (PhD in movie watching studies) will watch everything Nikolaj Coster-Waldau stars in because Shotcaller, God is a Bullet, Small Crimes, and like 10 other of his recent films are those good writers and directors making this style work with no pretense. It's like when people were uncomfortable with Craig Zahler films but didn't know why.
Absurd discussing a Netflix bag film like this.

My conservative old guy friend knows I like movies a lot, so he asked me for some recommendations. I didn’t give him anything crazy, but he’s disliked most of them. Disliked Alien. For him, I think movies exist on a continuum as points of proximity to Truth. So 13 Hours and Sound of Freedom are excellent movies, because they buttress The Truth. Alien is dark and uncomfortable, so it’s a bad movie. He once told me good art tries to make the world better or make us better. Which, for any person who isn’t completely ideologically insular or rigid, is a fucking stupid heuristic. While it’s great if a movie can illuminate or teach you something, requiring that it reinforces your values means it can’t challenge you, and if you disagree with aspects of its themes, plot, message, or sensibilities, then you can dismiss it. I think there’s a degree of that in Rebel Ridge talk online. The cops were bad, but not bad enough. It was one black man up against a corrupt system, but it didn’t really wade into racism.
That doesn’t apply to everyone who doesn’t like Rebel Ridge.

I disagreed with aspects of Dragged Across Concrete in terms of theme or intent. Still a pretty good movie with interesting choices and a good cast.

Okay but why didn't the main guy transform into a dinosaur and eat all the cops? Answer me that.
(I think it did wade into the racism though... like when he asks the lady cop why she's stuck with the shitty car. Or maybe misogyny? Or probably both. It's more nuanced than people are giving it credit for.)

I rewatched 'The Warriors' (1979) tonight and didn't realize the overt influence it had on 'John Wick 4'. But imagine if in the middle of the movie he tried to get laid :-) "John Wickkkkkk, come out to playyyyyy"

Bone Tomahawk was really good. I don't know why he made the natives actual monsters. Could have easily written around that.
