I checked random showings for Terrifier 3 all weekend and the next few days and it's like 90% sold out.
Incredible showing for that franchise.
I'm tempted to see Joker 2 but seems like Todd Phillips just said F U to the audience and weirdos who misread the character. Seems fun but know it's gonna be dog shit.

I maintain that Kubrick is probably the greatest filmmaker to ever live. I’m aware a lot of yall will disagree I mean it’s either him or Baz Luhrmann Or Paul Verhoeven

I want to go see Megalopolis on Saturday, but it might be pulled from most theaters by then.

Also Caddo Lake is a very solid little time travel suspense

Terrifier 3 is ridiculous. Suffers from a long screen time. Like, fuck, you coulda cut like 45 minutes off it. But it definitely had me squirming. It’s just like, “oh you’re a character? You’re gonna die really bad”

Best case scenario for Joker 2 is 210 million worldwide. If it doesn’t hit 200 million, I’ll ride that high into the new year.

Also Caddo Lake is a very solid little time travel suspense Once everything becomes apparent, it’s actually pretty derivative of some other stuff. It was filmed three years ago, so I guess the studio just didn’t have faith it could turn a profit theatrically. I had 90% of it figured out very early on cuz I’m so sexy at watching movies but Dylan O’Brien was really good in it. And I had to google the girl at the beginning just to make sure they weren’t casting Allison Pill as a juvenile. Overall, pretty good movie.

Romeo + Juliet is dope but Baz Luhrmann should kill himself Whenever I attempt one of his movies, I’m out within 10 mins. Just from a staging perspective alone, obviously he’s super talented. But his movies are annoying.

Just got out of The Substance. Insane movie. Loved it. The lady in front of me kept taking out her phone at full brightness and she walked out before I had the chance to fully radicalize.

New Hellboy is the best adaptation the comic has gotten yet. It’s hurt by its lower budget, but otherwise I have no complaints at all. Really great one, and it’s a bummer that it won’t get the recognition it deserves. Del Toro really fucked the whole franchise up with his takes on it

The kills and effects are awesome.

Rap World premiere today in Philly was hysterical. They said it’ll be on YouTube in late October so I’m stoked to watch it again. Hardest I’ve laughed in a long time watching something. Connor O’Malley continues to be a genius.

Got to go to an Academy voters screening of Blitz (new Steve McQueen). Which was fine. McQueen played it too safe to appeal to old people. Paul Weller of The Jam has a small acting role in it.

Terrifier 2 was definitely on the long side as well Rewatched it yesterday (second time seeing it) and it really didn’t hold up like I thought it would. Felt so much longer than I remember, too. Still laughed and gagged at plenty of shit, but despite not remembering ton, it didn’t hit anywhere near as hard as it did when I checked it out a couple years ago.

All of the kills in Terrifier 2 are awesome as fuck but yeah it could have been trimmed heavily. But also I don't enjoy movies like that because they are made well, per se haha

Even though I think the Terrifier franchise kinda sucks, happy the studio is making mad bank on a low budget movie with the smallest promotional spend maybe ever for a wide release. Good for them, fuck Joker 2.

That shit was gruesome. Crazy that they did all that on a small budget. We had a lot of fun but woof some of it was hard to watch.

I’d bet all my money Smile 2 ends with her killing herself on stage in front of a lot of people.

when’s the next tournament, z man? Whenever people want it! I wanted to rest a little bit between brackets so people don't get fried on it. If it feels like it's time again I can probably throw something up Monday!

Anybody trying to achieve a certain number by Jan 1 of movies watched in 2024? How are y'all faring at that goal? I don’t set movie goals for myself like I do for books but I’ll be finishing around 250 or so at my current pace. Every time I start to think I wish I had watched more I try to remind myself that 250 is more than most people will watch in a lifetime. Also I topped out at 409 in 2020 or 2021 but I had a three or four-week stretch where my office sent us home to work for Covid but w weren’t able/equipped to so then I literally watched three movies every single day of that stretch. I also had three months of paternity leave with my daughter where I’d have like 3-4 hours a day of her napping to bang a few out in addition to any others. I’ll never top that number again, at least not before retirement, so 250 a year is about where I’ll keep hitting I’d imagine.
