Anybody trying to achieve a certain number by Jan 1 of movies watched in 2024? How are y'all faring at that goal? I don’t set movie goals for myself like I do for books but I’ll be finishing around 250 or so at my current pace. Every time I start to think I wish I had watched more I try to remind myself that 250 is more than most people will watch in a lifetime. 250 is about 2 movies every 3 days (or about 5 movies a week), that's a strong pace! I don't have kids but I imagine that would put a huge dent in my movie watching. But it's probably fun to rewatch favorites with a new set of eyes sitting next to you (now, or eventually when they're old enough.)

I’m super fortunate that outside the first like 4-5 months by daughter’s been a terrific sleeper, and she’s down by 730 at the latest (used to be 6) so thankfully it hasn’t really inhibited my movie watching at all. Many parents are nowhere near as lucky with their kids’ sleep patterns though.
But yeah, I’m so fucking excited to start watching movies with her and really hope it’s something she’ll take to. Having a movie buddy for life — my wife doesn’t watch many and my friends do not care anywhere near as much about movies or going to the theatre as I do — would be the coolest thing.
Actually taking her to her first theatre movie next month when Moana 2 comes out. She’ll be 3 1/2 and I feel like will do well with a theatre at that point and I’m so excited.

Really dug A Different Man. Very layered and a rather sinister sense of humor that sorta weaponizes yourself.
If you haven't seen Schimberg's first film Chained For Life, you are truly fucking up.

Fincher’s next is a Montana-set western. Wonder if he’s actually filming it here. Love recognizing exact spots.

Okay I'm going to whittle this down to 32 titles for the bracket... if anybody feels like there's any glaring omissions, let me know now: (I didn't include movies such as 'manhunter' or 'dead ringers' because neither feel like horror? not sure if that's a 'hot take' by me...) I'm also not sure what to do about some of the franchises... like how many friday the 13th movies should be on the 32 movie bracket? 1980 Alligator Cannibal Holocaust City of the Living Dead Dressed To Kill The Fog Friday the 13th Inferno Maniac Prom Night The Shining 1981 An American Werewolf In London The Beyond The Burning The Evil Dead Friday the 13th Part 2 Halloween II The Howling My Bloody Valentine Possession Scanners 1982 Basket Case Cat People Creepshow The Fan Friday the 13th Part III Halloween III: Season of the Witch Poltergeist The Slumber Party Massacre Tenebre The Thing 1983 Angst Blood Beat Christine Cujo The Dead Zone Jaws 3-D The Keep Psycho II Sleepaway Camp Videodrome 1984 C.H.U.D. Children Of The Corn Firestarter Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter Gremlins The Mutilator Night Of The Comet A Nightmare On Elm Street Silent Night, Deadly Night Sole Survivor 1985 Day Of The Dead Demons Friday the 13th: A New Beginning Fright Night Lifeforce A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2: Freddy’s Revenge Phenomena Re-Animator The Return Of The Living Dead The Stuff 1986 Chopping Mall Critters The Fly Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives From Beyond Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer The Hitcher Little Shop Of Horrors Night Of The Creeps The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 1987 Angel Heart Bad Taste Evil Dead II Hellraiser The Hidden The Lost Boys Near Dark A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors Opera Prince Of Darkness 1988 The Blob Brain Damage Child's Play Elvira: Mistress of the Dark Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers Hellbound: Hellraiser II Killer Klowns From Outer Space A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master Pumpkinhead 1989 Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers Intruder Leviathan Pet Sematary Parents Puppet Master Shocker Society Tetsuo: The Iron Man

I know CHUD and The Fan aren’t making the cut. Is there a different The Fan I don’t know about cuz I don’t consider that horror, just bad.

The only sequels that need to be added are Halloween III, Exorcist III, and NOES III
Nightmare 2 is definitely my favorite and I don’t even like Dream warriors much, but I already know how the voting will play out on those ones

I don't see any glaring omissions, only missing ''lesser'' titles that I personally love but wouldn't have a chance against some of these movies anyways. As for franchises, have you considered not including any sequels? It could help trim down the list. That might be a hot take ;) -- but I agree with your assessment, feel the same way about The Fan (GREAT movie) and a few others on the list. This is going to be fun!!!
