Currently halfway through In Search of Darkness and I dig it but also they just kinda summarize movies I’ve seen a bunch and for the few I haven’t maybe spoil a little more than I’d like. Are 2 & 3 a bit of a departure? more of a deep dive?

Pieces (1982) is sleazy giallo perfection with a healthy dose of sleazy American slasher thrown in.
& one unexplainable kung fu action sequence

I rewatched The Descent last night for the first time since I saw it in theaters in 2006. It held up pretty well! A little heavy on unnecessary jump scares, but it was still very chilling and had some great clever shots. I really liked the way it used the Alien-esque story structure, and I love a movie that starts as one kind of movie and becomes something different entirely half way through.

Finally watched Altered States. Straight up acid trip. Wildest visuals I've ever seen in a movie and that is from 1980. Even the dated fx were potent. Also Drew Berrymore's film debut.

Lake Mungo might be the scariest thing I ever saw. There was a point during the film I realized I wasn't breathing anymore.

That found footage haunted house(?) trilogy was better than I expected Hell House? those were really good too.

I’m gonna be that asshole but dude the books (Descent and Deeper) from Jeff Long are SO much better than the movies. The Descent is one of my favorite books of all time, like it’s ridiculously well written and also somewhat plausible. Basically the events in the movie are just one small event from The Descent, and similar events are going on all over the world for reasons I’m not going to spoil for you but shit pops off in a big way and you absolutely need to read The Descent at least. I’ll just say they could probably do a cool HBO series based on the first book at this point but it would have to be 12 well written hour at least long episodes.

Not a horror film but directed by Stuart Gordon, so I figured this thread would appreciate - watched Fortress on Friday. GREAT Friday night flick, can't believe I hadn't heard of it sooner.

My wife and I watched a Smile last night. Some really great genuine creepy moments but also some really terrible CGI. The movie was basically it follows but without fucking. 6/10

I’ve been hearing things about Lake Mungo for over decade, finally added it. Ready to get mighty frightened
Very stoked for new Evil Dead next month. Still think about how Fede’s reboot/sequel was so brutal and mean. It fucks!

Yeah I love the evil dead remake! Between the og’s, the show, and the remake (and hopefully the new one as well) the evil dead franchise has been one of the most consistent around. That and Chucky are the only ones where I can honestly say they have never slipped up
