I didn't love the last 15 minutes or so but I really thought it was great besides that. Everything leading up to the end was a fun ride. Really felt like watching an old talk show.

X is such a weird phenomenon to me People swear that shit is high brow excellence with a message and it’s just mediocre at best Innkeepers rocks tho And non-horror for West, In A Valley of Violence is really good I like X a lot, but I think trying to hold it to an arty/“high brow” perspective is misplaced and people only do that because it’s an A24 movie. It’s just a sleazy slasher movie made by an extremely competent director (house of the Devil is one of the best horror flicks of the last 25 years imo). It’s certainly not in the same lane as stuff like the VVitch or Hereditary or Black Coats daughter. Honestly one of the things I like about it is that it feels very unpretentious.

I wanted to like X more than I did because I'm a 70s porno fan and a sleazy slasher fan. It just didn't do it for me.
Late Night With the Devil was okay. The ending was iffy but the ride up to it was pretty enjoyable.

Im so fucking behind on new movies since my kid was born in October, but I finally caught Immaculate the other day. I really liked it a lot. It wasn’t a masterpiece or anything, but I really appreciate how much it leaned into exploitation and excessive gruesomeness. I was honestly expecting the sort of meandering tameness we see in something like Saint Maude. I would love to see more new horror movies that have the auteurist creativity of A24 movies but are unquestionably horror and really go for the throat.

it flowed like a talk show and i was grooving on the retro halloween music and decor, but yeah a little clumsy at the end. the prologue crammed a lot of info in there too, but starting the movie with pentagram playing was fucking sick!

Caught Abigail last night. Was fun enough, but was hoping to like it more. A couple decent moments. Was stoked on the top tier Danzig song they randomly used in it.

Didn't dig Late Night With The Devil at all. When the ending hit I was pretty let down, that's it? Then I looked it up to connect some dots and I feel like I watched a different movie, might try again. Maybe I was too high. I love the cast and the idea, but yeah, not for me I guess.
Caught Thanksgiving recently and that movie was fun.
What're some good ones coming to theaters?

I am still not sure what Long Legs is going to be about or if it will even be any good but they have had some of the best marketing I have seen in a while for a horror movie.

I honestly think that’s what the best horror trailers should do, giving you the mood and vibe of a movie without telling you what to expect. It’s why so many Blumhouse type movies have such lame trailers, telling you basically the whole movie. Hereditary did this sort of vague trailer to great effect, as did the original trailer for Alien (which this long legs trailer is definitely doing a bit of homage to in the way they do the title).

Had a few friends who wen't to a test screening for Longlegs and all of them (except one) spoke highly of it, they all also said Nic Cage's performance is straight-up gonzo.

In a Violent Nature's trailer has me psyched. It seems like such an obvious concept but that doesn't make me any less excited. I hope they stick to the approach for the entire runtime as shown in the trailer.

I am so deeply in the bag for the last 6 or so years of Cage’s career. Even in a so-so movie like Renfield, he still killed it. Perhaps this is setting my hopes too high but I’m hoping this will go up there with Mandy and Pig as his great semi recent roles.

There were a couple exceptions (Talk To Me, Where Evil Lurks, M3gan etc), but 2023’s horror releases felt really underwhelming and left me really bummed out (perhaps I shouldn’t put so much stake in a genre, but what can ya do). I’m really feeling good about this year though between what we’ve already gotten and what is coming up for the rest of the year, especially with it all winding down with fucking Nosferatu.

Yeah I actually enjoyed Renfield but I know that one isn’t for everyone. I like corny movies like it and Dylan Dog. Has atmosphere that reminds me of being a kid on Halloween.

I really loved elements of Renfield, I just really didn't like any of the plot with the cop or most of the mob stuff. The action elements just didn't do much for me. I just wanted more of character Renfield and Dracula, and less of everything else.

Watched Lord of Misrule on Hulu, worth a watch if anyone's interested in folk horror.

I watched Scream VI and only realized that the whole : "it's in NYC" from the trailers was pretty much pointless and it could have been set anywhere.

I’m pretty ambivalent towards dude these days but I def watched his vids years ago. We both found an escape from a sheltered religious upbringing through film, so I’ve always felt a sorta kinship with him. He def helped prop up the whole manchild film bro subculture that is endlessly annoying but I do genuinely hope movie works out for him and that it’s good.
