External factors and dumb policy adversely impacts our corporate overlords, and costs are passed on to consumers. While they’re not running a charity, they are in the business of staying in business. Operating at an economic loss or breaking even so prices can be slightly cheaper isn’t how any sane actor behaves. Also, while the economy has come roaring back compared to a lot of other places, all those money grubbing sociopaths are not, in fact, posting record profits. |

Basically there’s less shipping between US ports as a result of the law which then ends up in trucking. Not sure how true that its, but it makes sense. Huh… yeah I don’t know if I buy this. I guess hypothetically (if all meaningful empirical factors are just completely disregarded) super cheap shipping would incentivize shipping from one US port to another. Like, if you had slave labor operating the ships and unionized utopia in trucking, this would make sense. |

The United States simply does not have the public sector workforce at the local and state level in order to accomplish any ambitious progressive legislative agenda efficiently and effectively. And there is little to no reason to believe that this situation will improve. Retirements will continue to mount up and there are no people in line to replace retirees in crucial positions across the country. This is not an obscure problem and it has been discussed and written about for decades now, but for the most part there has been little action taken.
