Yes Dems are worse on censorship than the guy who literally spoke in front of Moms for Liberty.

If banning social media and hanging Elon Musk in the town square is censorship, then call me Tipper Gore

The part that gets me is that he's obviously not against "censorship" because he kowtows to dictators and removes tweets critical of oppressive governments.

WE’RE TALKING ABOUT THE JONES ACT AND DRAYAGE NOW YOU FUCKING TURD GET WITH THE FUCKING PROGRAM get rid of Jones act duh, and dredge away. But youll zoning, epa will probably stand in your way. But to me I'd rather us do this than China or India bc we pollute far less. That being said I'm anti globalization and would hope we build much more in us, and pass right to repair mostly for small farmers. Why would you want to get rid of the Jones Act if you want to incentivize building things in the US?

I know I can just reflexively retort with “bullshit,” but on the broad merits that don’t rely on a strawman, I dunno what the argument is. I guess when anything involves commerce or trade, someone who is basically opposed to those things unless it’s a quixotic make believe version of them, can make general statements about globalism or some other assorted bullshit.

Somebody give me a non bullshit reason to keep the Jones Act. Most of the people directly involved with it don’t seem to think it’s bad and the people who hate it tend to do so primarily for ideological reasons. It’s like the insistence on congressional term limits n shit. Anyhow, crustache wants things build in America but hates the president who made that a pillar of his legislative agenda.

Only idiots want congressional term limits. That’s a real firm consensus in political science, but maybe all those fuckers are unwitting servants and shills for a corrupt, elite class or something. With the Jones Act, it seems tossing it has a moderate upside and a very small, limited downside.

I dunno, I think it is true that it’s helped grow and maintain expertise in shipbuilding which might otherwise erode, and the U.S. has had that problem with other areas (ex: money flowing to rail projects without the sufficient workforce to make best use of the funds because the U.S. hasn’t invested this much into rail in decades). I dunno who board’s resident maritime expert is

Basically there’s less shipping between US ports as a result of the law which then ends up in trucking. Not sure how true that its, but it makes sense.

That's a side effect of any Buy American provision. If we paid higher prices but got a strong ship manufacturing industry I think that could be worth it.
But it looks like we don't really build shit here. Matson appears be the only domestic ocean freight company of note. And because less domestic shipping is happening through more carbon intensive methods it’s potentially worse for the environment. But I've also seen that gas would probably be cheaper if it was cheaper to move gulf oil to the east coast. So maybe the carbon emissions are a wash.

Curious if John Bolton will be next. He's been saying he was going to write in Dick Cheney for months.
