They sighned a deal with the devil 40 years ago and he wants his end of the bargain. Lots of the old guard are retiring or on deaths door, some of the Hertiage foundation dorks got their tax cuts and are bouncing now.
That party is literally going to be full of outright religious authoritarians and race realist fascists in 10-20 years. They're already winning primaries and getting seats.

Still trying to wrap my head around this
haha really? Would you rather get a years celery up front or work until you have that amount saved?
I would be surprised if any of my friends or family have ever had anywhere near 50k saved at any given time, but I have three friends who I know make 50k or more. None of them are taking home anywhere near 50k after taxes and expenses. Two of them are still living paycheck to paycheck from their exorbitant student loan debt, the other pays 1k in rent so he can walk to work. They would have to save literally every cent of disposable income for probably 3 years to have 50k put away, which is totally unrealistic.
Contrast that with someone who has 50k on hand, which at worst is a HUGE safety net for your average person, and provides reasonable investment opportunities.
i was just working with an older guy the other day who was telling me how he's bought and paid off 3 houses in his lifetime and he's never made more than $100k a year in his life he just sacrificed and saved like a madman. and he said in the 3 years since his current house has been paid off he's kept making "mortgage payments to himself" and has saved $75k in those 3 years.

If you make a middle class income, basic retirement planning will get you to 50k in savings in a few years. Not to mention home equity, etc.

J/W for real, I get $45k a year and right now my girlfriend is jobless and we struggle hard with $900 a rent, car insurance, phone payment, Internet, gas bill. If you can figure out a way to make me have a savings LMK

The newly released 2017 W2 SS wage data shows 68% of earners took home less than $50,000. 60% under $30,000.
61% of the country can't cover a $1,000 emergency.
Throw away your smart phone, eat oatmeal three meals a day, drive for Uber and start selling blood. Maybe you too can then have afford health insurance and a roof.

J/W Depends where you live, but say middle class starts at $50k outside the major cities. You have no kids, you have fixed costs of $2k a month, all taxes maybe $7k a year. You can take $10k out of that remaining $19k and save it. You're well over $50k before you turn 30. I don't know many people who've done it, but people in this country don't save even when they make excellent money. If you're frugal you absolutely can do it.

from my own experience, if you start at 0 or less than 0 with loan debt, it will take at least a decade to save enough for a 10k emergency fund. i was lucky enough to have a relatively low loan balance (-20K) to start and an engineering job out of college. since i graduated in 2006, 10 out of the 12 years my living conditions and quality of life have been poor to bad. living in shit neighborhoods, unsafe / unhealthy buildings, 2hr+ commutes, criminal roommates, break-ins, property theft, long hours with no overtime, multiple years between vacations, workplace abuse and violence, and social isolation due to my work schedule. i'm overweight, my blood pressure is elevated, and i only started getting regular health checkups a year ago after not seeing a physician for over a decade.
you can move up, but no one tells you that it'll take blood and pain and years off your life. and then, if you aren't working yourself to death and living like an asshole, you get shamed for "not living up to your potential". and after all that hard work and insane luck, you'll still be worse off than the middle class and upper class kids that had families that could support them. and to add the final insult to injury, the 65 year old telling you that you're a piece of shit has a career productive output that you've already passed.

Not to mention the threat of being labeled a lazy millennial with any sign of complaining, when it’s the exact opposite and are working your ass off to pay off student loans and the ever increasing cost of living.

Everyone's circumstances are different and there are infinite variables but this just isn't the case with people I know. All of my friends are in the 25-35 demographic and have been in the work force for at least a few years and the only person I know who MIGHT have 50k saved graduated from college with 0 debt and has been living rent free for over a decade in a building his parents own. Basically, he's rich because his parents set the table for him.
Being able to save the $1,400 a month necessary to reach 50k in savings in 3 years is impossible unless you've got some kind of advantage like that or you just check out of life and do absolutely nothing except focus on saving money.

This feels like the time when I was a teenager and my uncle told me to save $25 a week and by the time I turn 40 I'll be a millionaire. Then my dad told me to never trust anything he says.

Yeah, obviously there are a lot of variables and luck involved. Three years is probably too little for someone making $50k. Depends on the return on your savings as well. But if we're talking about the time from college/trade school graduation to 30, and someone who's not getting screwed by rent and taxes in a big coastal city or Chicago, it's achievable for many people in that bracket.

for real, if your household annual income from all sources is above $300k, you should be on a watch list. if you grew up in a household at this level or higher, you are a straight up lizard person with zero empathy and sociopathic behavior.
