At 11 dead, the Pittsburgh attack is "the deadliest on the Jewish community in US history." My personal sense that it will always happen somewhere else is pretty much gone.

Between 2016 and 2017, anti-Semitic incidents in the US rose 57%. There is no doubt in my mind that Trump's bigoted rhetoric in office and on the campaign trail contributed to the PA shooting, the nationwide anti-semitic trend, and the rise of groups like the proud boys. When a leader is a bigot, it sets the tone and lets people know it's okay, and people get emboldened. If trump hadn't been banging the drum about "the caravan"--probably as a move to drum up support for republicans pre-midterms, or to distract from his nonchalant initial response to the Khashoggi murder--would this guy have seized on it as a reason to kill 11 Jews? My guess is no, even though he is undoubtedly loopy.
