Sanders history of being a Debs worshipper is obviously great. I havent looked into it, but how far did his support of the USSR actually go? I know he visited.

This is such a great point. The Huxleyan dystopia is a way more accurate description of the current climate than the Orwellian one, at least in America.
We're inundated with so much information and there are so many mindless distractions in our lives that no matter how how much we destroy the planet or how corrupt our leaders are, most people won't give a shit until it directly affects them.
There was a YA dystopian novel that I read in HS (around 2001 or so) called "Feed" that basically was spot on about what would happen to people with unlimited access to the internet/social media. It even had algorithms that determined what to market to certain people and basically crafted their identity.
Also, the president of the U.S. in the book is a bumbling idiot who doesn't know how to speak.

Trump may use rhetoric but it's just that: rhetoric.
Obama arguably wen't farther by using actions to block the flow of information to the public.
"Obama administration used the 1917 Espionage Act with unprecedented vigor, prosecuting more people under that law for leaking sensitive information to the public than all previous administrations combined. Obama's Justice Department dug into confidential communications between news organizations and their sources as part of that effort."
In 2013 the Obama used his power to obtained the records of 20 Associated Press office phone lines and reporters' home and cell phones, "seizing them without notice, as part of an investigation into the disclosure of information about a foiled al-Qaida terrorist plot."
Obama's Justice Department also "secretly dogged Fox News journalist James Rosen, getting his phone records, tracking his arrivals and departures at the State Department through his security-badge use, obtaining a search warrant to see his personal emails and naming him as a possible criminal conspirator in the investigation of a news leak."
But sure, Trump used the phrase enemy of the people.

Read this as well. Nothing groundbreaking in the cyberpunk realm, but was a solid, extremely plausible prediction of the type of dystopian society we are heading towards.

But sure, Trump used the phrase enemy of the people. What Trump is doing is worse, because it undermines public trust in the news generally and pushes us towards a post-fact society. The press only matters insofar as the public can trust the news they are getting. Preventing the leaking of internal information undermines trust in the president, it doesn't undermine the press.

I know trolling is your schtick but come on dawg.

But sure, Trump used the phrase enemy of the people. You’ve made a mistake in thinking anyone here believes Obama was a good president or even a good guy, but nice whataboutism. Next you’ll be giving us an irrelevant history lesson on Andrew Jackson and how his Indian Removal Act was way more egregious than Trump’s combover.
