The death toll on (authoritarian) communism may be discouraging, but the death toll on capitalism remains to be seen. Probably billions over centuries and we're still counting. Also raised billions out of poverty though. absolute poverty* But even Marx saw capitalism as a necessary step towards communism, precisely for this reason, it isn't an argument against communism, it's an argument for it.

capitalism is on track to kill 7.6 billion when we don't stop climate change. youuuuu can put it on the boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooard YES It's happened before when a comet slammed into the planet and we bounced back. if humans are the problem, and the planet corrects that problem, I'm not seeing the issue. No?

Bruh, you know humans didn’t exist during the mass extinction that wiped out the dinosaurs right? And like, you know all of those dinosaurs wen't, well, extinct. So who is this “we” you are referring to?

There are also some factors with man made climate change, mainly these positive feedback loops that we don't entirely understand. They may lead to runaway heating of the atmosphere, hello Venus. The rate of climate change is unprecedented.

Well, we're all going to die anyway and the sun will eventually burn out so why post? Board may be life, but one must ask, what is life without board?! One cannot fathom such a world, so post we must.

If we cant take care of this planet, then a human downgrade is just a fact of evolution.

The rate of climate change is unprecedented. Venus has been that way for millions upon millions of years, has a MUCH denser atmospheric pressure, and is closer to the sun. I don't get the correlation there.

Cheap moralizing of "taking care" of nature or whatever is a total failure and painstakingly naive.
Endless extraction, commodification and consumption predicated on infinite growth doesn't give a shit about destruction when it allows for redeployment of capital investment.
Nothing has ever changed before so let's stay the course.

I cant believe you're using Venus to make a point about man-made climate change.

Nobody argues that we are going to LITERALLY become Venus. It's simply used as an example of runaway climate change, which we may be entering into considering what I mentioned earlier -- positive feedback loops. Whereas prior history on the Earth, climate ebbs and flows on a geological scale. What we have now might represent a break from traditional models.

It's only something like an 8-10 degree Celcius increase where we begin to see cloud cover being annihilated, which would disrupt weather patterns. It's not hard to imagine such an increase considering the RATE of climate change industrialization has brought on. It's no VENUS, but can you imagine an ecosphere without clouds? They're saying this could happen within a century's time.

Ok cool. Why the hell would you bring Venus up when its that way NATURALLY. When the topic is MAN-MADE climate change. Im not denying man-made climate change and how run-away C02 levels can damage earth natural ebb and flow. I dont get why you're bringing Venus into it.
Earth is on the path to naturally becoming Venus in the future anyway. So what the fuck.

Also raised billions out of poverty though. Fair enough, but it also doesn't work unless a major portion of the population stays in poverty

I straight up do not have the patience to argue about which example of greenhouse gases pleases you, sorry. The term runaway greenhouse effect was coined when they first modeled the atmospheric history of Venus. Many people use it to describe the effects of greenhouse gases has on a planet's atmosphere. I don't know what else to tell you.

Yes. And I'm saying it happened naturally. So your point is that shit happens naturally in our solar system.
Cool.

I don't care about this word "naturally." People are "natural." My point is it stands to reason that industrialization could be pushing the Earth out of it's typical climate cycle into a state of greenhouse gas build up, heating the atmosphere faster than ever before, in a completely unprecedented way.
