I hate to be this guy every time, but I'm afraid it's another dub for voting vs. Not-voting-to-teach-your-party-a-lesson. Democrats get another two years of Judge appointments, McConnell doesn't get majority leader, Mccarthy doesn't have a solid majority with a disunited republican party in the house, all Trump's election deniers kept out of Secretary of State and Governorship roles, Michigan full Democrat for the first time in 40 years etc. etc. I'm honestly in awe it happened. I truly think this is the death rattles of the Republican party as we know it.

Yeah I think the thing that is hard for Democrats to understand is that the Republicans are an organized political project that will actually unite and go forward with what wins, instead of having to string together this rickety old ragtag coalition of people that hate each other every couple years, like the Dems.

I know Republicans will not go quietly into the night, I'm saying it's the end of the Republican party as we know it.

They absolutely aren't going away, but I think it's the end of the last 40 years of Republicanism. Demographic shifts and the failures of those policies, combined with the rise of popular progressive policies mean they can't win on their same platform. They also can't win on repackaging or hiding that platform behind culture war tactics. They also can't win purely on redistricting and manipulation of the levers of power. It also shows the waning influence of Fox News in an increasingly digital media age. I dont think the young Republicans realize the significance of this moment, and the old Republicans are too late to pivot. It may be a generation before we see Republicans dominate the way they did in the 80s and 90s.

I would honestly be really surprised if they make good on their threats and actually line up behind Hard Rocker Ron. Trump has a gun to their head in the sense that their voting base is a new religious movement devoted to him. These are not people that cut their losses, and they will cynically endorse whatever culture war bullshit their slobbering voters care about if that's what it takes to protect capital. I don't even see any difference between Ronald and Donald in that regard.

Also, it's true that Trump has basically lost two national elections for his party in a row now, but those elections have also confirmed that FL and OH are basically safe red states now, so I wouldn't take it for granted that Dems can just thread the needle yet again in 24, even if it's Trump himself running. If it's DeSantis, odds are even worse imo

It’s okay to reluctantly vote Dem. I just do it the same way I pay bills. At least with Dems, you can occasionally get the funding to pursue a good project. I’m currently working on a project and I hope lefty faculty can see that it could work out well if they decide to take a hold of it n proactively govern it. Which is, by the way, way easier to explain to 35 year old millennials than 64 year old boomers.

Quick story: I was walking to work one day and I saw two people ride by on a stupid looking tandem bicycle. A father and his ~12 year old daughter. The dad was a nerdy guy in dorky bike gear obviously having the time of his life. Behind him, his daughter was riding with her arms crossed and with a petulant scowl on her face. The picture of pre-juvenile churlishness. A ridiculous sight.

I’m not sure how much credit cops can take for property crime being down. Outside of the worst depths of COVID the US has had historically low unemployment since about 2017-2018, and unemployment definitely has an effect on crime.
