russia defeated chechnya, incorporated it back into russia, and set up a puppet regime. that was less than a decade ago.
edit: parts of georgia as well.

Been thinking about this... what is the point of giving Ukraine $61 billion dollars? At this point after two years if you need to literally double your budget you're not winning this war, you're delaying the inevitable. Is the USA / Ukraine's plan to linger around long enough for Putin to rage surge into Ukraine giving NATO the justification for an intervention? One thing that gets forgotten lots is that the US made Ukraine(along with Kaz&Bel) disarm their nuclear weapons after the USSR fell. There was an agreement sighned between all of them+Russia that they'd respect their sovereignty and borders, which obviously didn't happen, so the US is now having to hold up to their end. And the US military spends around $800 billion a year, so in the grand scheme what they give to Ukraine is not even a big piece of the pie. Plus, Ukraine has some of the most fertile land in the world, along with mostly untapped oil resources in the east, so I'm sure that's where a lot of the US and Russia's interests really lie. |

I'm telling you this as someone who has family there and has followed this very closely for basically a decade now... It's very tiring when people react to political bullshit like that, but say absolutely nothing when Russia bombs apartment buildings and hospitals, which they do daily.
