Communism is cool in all but, as a pragmatist with intellectual roots in Foucault, Hegel, and the third generation of the Frankfurt School, I am suspicious of all endeavors to remake man in the image of his own thought This is the utility of Marxism-Leninism. The genius of Marx and Engels gave us the science of dialectical materialism with which we understand this world and the shortcomings of previous economic systems. Lenin gave us the framework that we use to apply that science to the real, material world. To remake man in the image of his own thought is to engage in idealism. While it could be considered communism or socialism, it's not Marxism!

Like, conceivably it just lends itself to lots of "SEE, I TOLD YOU, OBAMA FUCKS MEN" and then... what then? Whole thing can be filtered down to "we get to load more dirt on the president we don't like for being a f*ggot" basically, which like... damn, y'all got em on that one lol

I'm proud to live in a country that elected a pansexual black man, his trans partner and adopted children to the highest political position in the west, not once but twice.

Never been able to quite grasp the science-y part of dialectical materialism, but I’m gonna tackle Marx’s Capital this year so maybe then I’ll have a better grasp on it. A lot of the ML stuff online is hard to figure out(they say stuff critical of metaphysics and then do what looks like metaphysics to me, b/c the term has a different meaning in their usage). I think that the primary difference between what is considered metaphysics in general academia/philosophy is much broader than what MLs use the term to describe. You are absolutely correct in saying that it's an operationalized definition. The primary difference in a dialectical materialist analysis is that what I'm going to call traditional Aristotelian logic hinges on the apinion that the world is shaped by ideas, rather than the world and its systems shaping the ideas of man(the ML view) - to be honest I haven't read the totality of Capital, only studied it in parts and referenced it. A lot of it is definitely a slog because it's a lot of breakdowns of the logic and premises used in arguments that I find more easily digestible in writings like the manifesto or Wage Labour & Capital. Basically, pre-Marx, the most important driving factor of "truth" was this thing that we call "mind". In Marx, we derive truth from not only what we experience in the real world, but by bringing these rudimentary, rough ideas into the marketplace of ideas by discussing with our comrades. I feel like even Hegel is still with the Greeks and Second Enlightenment thinkers as far as the whole "mind" thing is concerned. This book was invaluable in my understanding of Marxism because it provides three different perspectives on the same issues using the same toolset - but in the different stages of the development of Marxism. www.intpubnyc.com/browse/reader-in-marxist-philosophy/Take what I say with a grain of salt though, I'm not a philosopher anymore, nor am I an academic. I'm just a tradesman who likes to read this shit for whatever reason.

Capital is kind of a chore to read at parts, but I’d highly recommend Michael Heinrich’s “How to Read Marx’s Capital” that one really helped me understand the importance of exchange for the abstraction from concrete labor, as well as commodity fetishism, which might be one of the most important but most misunderstood subjects in Capital. 👍🏽 Edit* I have a copy of Heinrich’s book that I’d be happy to send your way.

I'm just a tradesman who likes to read this shit for whatever reason. Word, thanks to you n Mr. Molester. The basics I get (“Marx turns Hegel on his head”). I dunno if I think that reading of Hegel’s practical rationality and truth is quite right, though. Hegel and that whole subsequent train of thought wouldn’t consider “truth” as separable from “the marketplace of ideas” in such a clearcut way — They are far too insistent on the social being prior to the individual. For Hegel (and I assume Marx as well…?), “Humans are, and are wholly and essentially, always under way historically and socially, and even in their attempts to reason what anyone, any time ought to do, they do so from an institutional position” (Pippin, Hegel’s Practical Rationality, p. 265). So, to say that something is true is immediately contestable simply because you are making a truth-claim. Fuck I gotta get back to work.
