I agree which is why my default point of view is that we should stop intervening overseas entirely. This will not happen though. |

There's obviously a big extremist element in Israel, but in my experience actual Israelis are way more moderate than western Jews and are embarrassed by them. Something about knowing Palestinians and having to bear the consequences of far-right policy maybe.

There's obviously a big extremist element in Israel, but in my experience actual Israelis are way more moderate than western Jews and are embarrassed by them. Something about knowing Palestinians and having to bear the consequences of far-right policy maybe. In my own personal experience the Israeli- Americans I know who otherwise identify as Obama libs have been pretty full throated in their support for this current war and will say shit like “there’s no such thing as Palestinians” etc. It’s a bummer. |

Yeah as I said, there's a big extremist element. There's also a big moderate element, whereas in the west there's like a 90pc chance an Israel "supporter" is a racist crank.

Honestly most Israelis I’ve met, despite claiming to be liberal / progressive, will do this song and dance about how they hate Netanyahu but are dead silent about a two state solution, about the settlements, etc. Begin was democratically elected. Netanyahu was democratically elected (a few times). Sharon was democratically elected. This is just how Israelis are. They represent an exigent threat to the Palestinians and their neighbors. What they’re doing right now is what all of them want to do, the people in charge right now are just being way less subtle about it.
I’m also not saying to eliminate / displace them because that’s just as evil as what they’ve done to the Palestinians. I am saying they’re unfit to govern and Israel as a geopolitical apparatus should be dismantled.

I wen't to Israel in 2010 because US Airways was doing $200 round trip tickets to Tel Aviv, and I couldn’t resist that deal! My tour guide in Jerusalem was a psychopath like a lot of the politicians calling for genocide right now. Most of the other people I talked to about it just seemed scared and being taken advantage of because of it.
