Of course it's speculative. It's speculation based on decades of American foreign policy, and "liberal" (in)action. Policy in the middle east is a major element of American power (and thus identity lolz). There is simply too much wrapped up in being buddy buddy with Israel for anyone with any power of the kind that would be required to do anything, to do anything. That's the political will issue, there's also the desire issue. Which is one Harris, or just about anyone else (with any kind of influence) within that administration or any other has never demonstrated much of. And that's without even touching the Israel lobby which has been consistently successful in maintaining the narrative among powerful and influential people and voting blocs that Israel has the right (and the need) to butcher civilians. I don't really think "anything is possible" is really a great response to a consistent pattern of "we actually don't give a shit". Sounds like you're talking about the next prez cutting ties with Israel and not what they're actually saying they'll do. Israel would not even exist without the US. So making any sort of unilateral move like that is going to take many more years of pushing than the couple months since most people found about about this problem. A few years ago calling for a ceasefire would have been political suicide. Plus most voters did not give a shit. It just hasn't been a priority for either of the two major parties here. The fact a US candidate with a shot at winning is even saying this is unprecedented. I'll take my chances.
Presidents from Reagan to W. Bush have done all sorts of lip service in regards to "Israel should stop blowing people up", the latter even explored the idea of Palestinian statehood publicly.
Just a ceasefire is monumental task in itself, which is sort of my point. A ceasefire would certainly be pretty cool, at least until Israel consolidates all of its intelligence and materiel and decides to do a whoopsies and then break the ceasefire.

No comment on BRT from the crustache guy. I thought this crustache guy was really concerned about the plight of immigrants and undocumented people in this country? In many parts of the country, undocumented people are unable to legally operate a private vehicle and many older immigrants do not have a driver's license even if they have legal status, and BRT is a cost-effective and quick way to make substantial improvements in public transit. Odd! I would make coming country easy pathway to citizenship is insane. Buddy what is going on with you. |

At the end of the day one intentionally got rid of abortion access and wants to make you pay for weather reports. Since voting for either one does not automatically stop a genocide happening with my tax dollars, I believe I will simply vote for the one that doesn't want trans people dead and children working in mines.

I most certainly support the groups out there lobbying the DNC for more action, but it's absolutely not on my list of "many reasons to not want republicans in power". I don't think I could take anyone seriously who would exchange the very real positive change in regards to abortion access and not treating trans people like criminals, for some hail mary chance at anything greater than Bibi not blowing up civilians for a week.

it is sad. it's also why I'm not a liberal or some god awful centrist.
I'm also not expecting those things, since the only thing I expect out of politicians is buffoonery. I am however hopeful that those things can be accomplished by the more competent members. (I'm also not American so lol)
I used to work for our local Green Party. I was chilling with our boss when we won a couple of seats in parliament. I wouldn't call it cynicism, so much as knowing when and where to take your wins.

A vote, to me, is not an endorsement. A vote is better seen as a tool. It is a piece of political power that we get for free. If I'm hungry, and I get cookies for free, I know I can't sustain myself on the cookies. But in the fight against my own hunger, you know I'm still gonna get those cookies and occasionally eat them, knowing I've got to add other nutritious options if I want to survive.
A vote is a cookie. It hurts no one to use it. It won't solve the problem. No one is saying it will. Not eating a cookie, or worse yet, not giving someone else who is starving your cookie in order maintain a moral highground, while simultaneously doing nothing to cultivate other, healthier options, is counter-productive. I'm no more endorsing genocide by voting for Kamala than I am endorsing child/slave labor by owning an iPhone, or than I am endorsing the persecution of Uyghers by purchasing goods made in China. But if you care about those issues, you're sure not going to stop at voting.
I understand that voting can look like a tacit approval of a basket of positions, but I think that is a naive way of thinking about it. It ignores the realities of a what a vote is. It's your right to withhold your vote as a form of protest. But the consequences of that can be extremely dire, and I think there is a time and place for that sort of protest. Protesting the road by walking into traffic is not persuasive.
