For a dysfunctional party, the DNC’s reclamation of what have been right wing tropes since 2016, flipping them on their head, and reanimating them as banners for a coalition of Democratic voters has been pretty fucking masterful. Obviously I’m groaning when I see cops and shit at these events, but if I separate myself from what I think is hard-rocking, I can appreciate the calculation and implementation. They're doing a good job repackaging the feel-good vibes that the Obama campaign had for geriatric voters but I think the disaffected people really just want the loud guy who was shot and almost killed a few weeks ago to lose because it would be really funny We do be thriving off of schadenfreude |

M.I.A. endorsed Trump. Getting a read on someone’s overall temperament usually gives you a good read on their political temperament. Erratic, loud reactionary assholes who espouse left wing ideas (Russell Brand, Kanye) are a natural fit for the modern right because it’s a movement that compliments their personality type. Same with the Intellectual Dark Web celebs/new radical centrists who were enamored with their proclamations and intellect. The audience that truly found their long winded rumination on The State of Things—some of it decent and some of it conspiracy-laden and hard-rocking—was on the right. But you could tell by tone alone with most of that crew who would turn idiot right wing and/or insular nutty. For all his faults, Sam Harris was never going down the road taken by the Weinsteins, Dave Rubin, or the James Lindsays of the world.
