No, it’s not. It’s true. Where does the money come from to pay for the roads and pipes and all the public infrastructure when there’s nothing that generates sufficient taxable revenue? dog you got any idea what property taxes are in NJ? maybe you’re referring to like tennessee NJ couldn’t raise the property taxes high enough to pay for the public infrastructure even if they wanted to.

Remington just closed their union shop in upstate NY to move to a brand new facility in georgia that the state of georgia gave them the land for $1 plus tax dollars to build the facility. who’s subsidizing that?

Local govt, cities, and states compete for revenue generating sources. Nothing new there. Presumably, the state of GA believes there’s potential for a great ROI.

We shouldn’t invest in taxable revenue sources…?

I’m not trolling.
You gotta look at the built environment and think about how much it costs to build and maintain it — roads, highways, electricity, sewage pipes, water lines, and so on and so on. You think sales tax and property tax covers all that? Come on, be fuckin real. I’m not against subsidies at all, obviously, but it’s about what is being subsidized. Broadband access, transit, etc. is fine. Debt-financed white flight has destroyed city finances, which in turn hurts the state’s budget.

Well I think further taxing property worth over a certain amount and implementing a incremental city tax on wages would prob be more productive than further taxing middle class families who live in surbubs lmao

Broadband access, transit, etc. is fine. Debt-financed white flight has destroyed city finances, which in turn hurts the state’s budget. so they should stop cutting taxes for the wealthy and corporations. They as in who? Local govt? City govt? Federal? And again, even if you raised taxes on the wealthy, you’re still dealing with an unsustainable system. And the wealthy and corporations vote with their feet and have no problem ditching your city or state. I don’t know how I’m being a “capitalist” by pointing out problems with… contemporary American capitalism…? that’s also good to stop cutting taxes for the wealthy and corporations and I think that the reliance on sales tax unduly burdens the poor, but if you see any major street work in your municipality lately, that’s all federal money and you aren’t paying for it at all — at least not right now. The problem is that when you have low density, you necessarily have less revenue sources. States and cities have got to attract revenue sources, and to do that you gotta have the labor force and everything else a business needs to make money that you can tax.
