i mean a big part of his appeal was that he wasnt a career politician. he was viewed as a "political outsider" going up against "the establishment". this is why he was able to energize people that were dissatisfied with or alienated by or just straight about never cared about the political process and not just the people who would vote republican no matter what.

I doubt that. It’s really hard to argue that his proposals are a “threat to capital.” It’s left of the general consensus, but it’s hard to say that the items he and other progressives actually succeeded in getting into recent legislation (IRA and IIJA) amount to a “threat to capital.” It’s a threat to some groups of capitalists, but a boon to some (plenty of capitalists want to get in on Green Energy — and they have increasingly done so). I’m glad he ran twice and did as well as he did and succeeded in making his group far more influential and powerful than it was before.

If “capital” includes people who are clearly not capitalists (or are at most petit bourgeois). I don’t think that larges swath of the US population needs to be convinced that they think socialism is bad, they just need to be mobilized and energized to vote. Republicans at the state and national level to do pretty well when they tell voters that Democrats are going to take away your gas stove and your truck and your single-family zoning.
