I just find it amazing that you can understand the concept of critical support for a segregationist but not for other nations that our under the boot of our imperialism.

How does board feel about Fredrik DeBoer? I've spent the last hour or so reading some of his essays and I feel like a lot of his stuff is spot on.

Which viable candidate is going to end centuries of Western imperialism? Neither? Draw. Which viable candidate just slashed DHHS protections for trans people? Trump. Which viable candidate doesn't believe in man made global warming? Trump. Which viable candidate dismantled the office of pandemic awareness? Trump. Which viable candidate believes you should be able to refuse service to LGBTQ persons? Trump. Which candidate believes in the banning of abortion and defunding Planned Parenthood? Trump. I don't like either candidate but I'm not going to stand by and watch my friends in the LGBTQ community and organizations like Planned Parenthood and women who depend on them for basic healthcare suffer because of it.

Bernie wouldn't have ended Western imperialism either, so I don't see what point you're trying to make relying on a presidential candidate to do it. It's not a comparison to make.

Believing global warming is real and doing something substantial and meaningful about it are two very different things.

Lol, can you relax?
You responded by talking about what Biden "believes." Why should I care what he believes when he's got the history to prove otherwise?
The moralizing is great and all. But you have to see why Bernie was criticized on his foreign policy from the left, right? Otherwise he had a history that proved he would fight for domestic rights. It's the same reason the social democratic countries are criticized on the exact same grounds.
What Biden says he "believes" is just wonderful, beliefs don't change the world.

Believing global warming is real and doing something substantial and meaningful about it are two very different things. No shit. Nothing can be done if you're not willing to come to the table and have the discussion.

They might not change your world but for a girl in Missouri who can't get access to an abortion or contraception or a trans person who is fired from their job or kicked off their health insurance because of their gender identity, these things can make a world of difference.

Whichever candidate makes me feel good because of their beliefs is the one I’m casting my vote for.

You realize as an American that when I bring up the issues of imperialism or colonialism (which still happens here) I'm not talking about my world right?

You realize as an American that when I bring up the issue of imperialism I'm not talking about my world right? Are you going to keep going back and forth on the issue of imperialism and then act confused when I concede it's a problem for both sides?

I just think your idea of pragmatism is flawed, that's all. I'm not confused about it.

You guys are monopolizing the thread with THE MOST pointless argument I've ever seen on here. Like, who are either of you trying to convince?

Whichever candidate makes me feel good because of their beliefs is the one I’m casting my vote for. You realize that these ideas aren't being discussed in the abstract, right? There exists a trail of executive orders purposely aimed at harming the specific groups of people I am talking about. This isn't about feelings.

I never mentioned feelings. Imperialism is an objective issue, it's the seizure of land, resources, and labor for the case of production. I just don't buy this Steven Pinker-esque idea of incrementalism, claiming to solve one issue while perpetuating others elsewhere.

The whole issue with letting trump win again because Biden is worse, is the scary reality that he will probably be appointing another Supreme Court justice.
That could could be a huge blow to women, minorities and anyone else that doesn’t fit in the white male spectrum of things, that a single ruling could be completely detrimental to your life. There’s a lot more riding right now.

Sort of. I don't know why someone would care so much that someone else on a messageboard doesn't want to vote for Biden. There's not much else to say on that.
All I'm saying is, bring up any social issue you'd like, as long as we have a system predicated on cyclical booms and busts and the poverty necessitated by it, you'll be sorely disappointed. But I know most of you guys don't see things that way, it's all about what the president believes or something. I don't think you can debate that away so whatever.
