Are they like robbing people or just driving around looking hard? I'd like to get out of the super touristy areas, but I'll stay there if it's dangerous haha. They shouted at us and were driving towards us and a shop owner took us inside and they drove away. Didn't seem like they wanted to exchange instas. I started searching around, and it seems like a handful of tourists have been killed there over the last few years. As far as I can tell, it seems pretty bad around Belize City, so I'll definitely avoid being in the city and be more cautious elsewhere. Thanks for the heads up!

Going to Memphis for work tonight. Not terribly excited since I've been there a bunch before.
Wanted to share my crazy road trip over Thanksgiving: Denver (Home) --> Billings, MT --> Lethbridge, AB --> Calgary, AB --> Regina, SK --> Winnipeg, MB --> Minneapolis, MN --> Omaha, NE --> Denver
Should be interesting!

You’re driving all of that? Man that is going to suck. Don’t underestimate prairie snowstorms, esp in Canada. I remember driving from Regina to Yorkton once in a complete whiteout on a two lane highway in the middle of nowhere which was pretty common.

From all the weather averages I checked, the amount of snowfall in November is fairly close to Denver, but obviously considerably colder. I've driven through enough snowstorms, definitely not trying to do it if I don't have to. I'm happy to pull off somewhere and wait it out.
We got 3 inches on Sunday then back into the 60s this week, so I know it's a bit of a gamble.

Haha, I worry about it too. I mostly just want to convince myself. Cool Runnings convinced me that Calgary is a fun place in the winter so long as you avoid the Swiss bobsled team.

The prairies have a special charm to them. Their winters are so depressingly brutal tho. I mean, I had a 3 year work visa and moved back after my one and only winter up there because it was that bad.

i agree, it's kind of not that special Bummer. Well we have a friend there and we were planning on staying at his place for a night or two If it's not too late and you're still going, at least go eat at Aroma (https://www.facebook.com/Aroma-122132031175118/), some of the best falafel you'll ever have. The Modern Art Museum(s) are usually pretty ok, as is the Schirn Kunsthalle, which usually has pretty modern/pop exhibitions. As you see there is a lot of hate on Frankfurt, but there's also some cool corners if you find em.

Man I still can't believe you're actually doing this in the winter, but fair play. I'd drive in and out of Regina though, not sure how awkward it is to get to Saskatoon but the difference between the two is night and day.

Debating between either Japan or Korea for the end of February/beginning of March. Hoping to get 3 weeks off but worried I'll only get 2. Is that enough time for Japan? I feel there is so much to see and do there that it wouldn't be enough...
Also, where do most of you book flights? I've had some luck with Cheapoair and Momondo in the past but lately haven't been able to find anything decently priced!

Originally considered Saskatoon, but I'm already driving a ton. Really wanted to see the Gordie Howe statue, haha. I'm only staying in Regina for a night, and I got some good recommendations from a friend who's from there.

I mentioned this over on the old board, but I use a pretty elaborate system. All the deal blogs like Secret Flying, Fare Deal Alert, etc. post deals on Twitter, so I use IFTTT to sync up filtered results so that all deals relevant to me get sent to my phone via PushBullet. That way if a deal is really hot or time sensitive, I see it right away.

Basically anything that isn't the obvious touristy stuff I can pull up with a simple google search. Good places for vegetarian eating, bars/nightlife, architecture, hikes, things to avoid, I'll take whatever really.

You might have trouble with vegetarian food so definitely do some research before, I basically ate meat or seafood with every meal cause it was the only options I could find at most restaurants. As for bars... BOP, Casa do Livoro, Plano B, Cafe au Lait, Passos Manuel. If you're into art, the street Rua de Miguel Bombarda has a bunch of galleries, I believe a lot of them are just pop ups so it's always changing but well worth checking out, Espaco Mira is a really cool gallery too. As far as architecture and hiking goes just walk around, the city is filled with beautiful buildings and street art too. And it's pretty touristy, but go have some Port wine across the river.

Also forgot to mention Jardins do Palácio de Cristal for Porto. It's a class park that's full of roosters and peacocks, along with a botanical gardens and one of the best views you can find in the city.

Euro homies ! I'm taking a solo trip out to your parts in March for 3 weeks. I'm flying into Munich, and flying out of Oslo. What should I do/where should I visit? Berlin is a for sure, I'm thinking of maybe going to Amsterdam, Copenhagen, and Malmo on my way to Norway. Anywhere else I should go? Best way to get around (train, rent a car, fly)? What's good?! Music, hikes, cool shit to see, vegan eats. Thanks! Jon
