Euro homies ! I'm taking a solo trip out to your parts in March for 3 weeks. I'm flying into Munich, and flying out of Oslo. What should I do/where should I visit? Berlin is a for sure, I'm thinking of maybe going to Amsterdam, Copenhagen, and Malmo on my way to Norway. Anywhere else I should go? Best way to get around (train, rent a car, fly)? What's good?! Music, hikes, cool shit to see, vegan eats. Thanks! Jon I would hit Copenhagen for sure. Stockholm and/or Gothenburg as well. Amsterdam is extremely touristy.

Made it back from my Canadian adventure, and it was actually pretty fun. The worst snow storms I hit, which were actually kinda scary, were in Wyoming/Montana then coming back through Nebraska--Canadian drives were fine.

I'd probably make my way up from Munich to Berlin via train, going through cities likes Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Hannover... as you feel is right. Then Berlin to Hamburg, Hamburg to Copenhagen, a quick day trip to Malmo from CPH (it's a small enough city for that), and then maybe taking the ferry from CPH to Oslo and then you're set. When I get a bit more time I'll write you a couple tips for CPH as well.

Try to find a Volksmarch (10km hike with beer and brats at the end, usually give a commemorative stein upon completion). I'd recommend Berchtesgaden for bavaria. Hands down one of the most beautiful places i've ever seen.

The worst snow storms I hit, which were actually kinda scary, were in Wyoming/Montana then coming back through Nebraska--Canadian drives were fine. What'd you make of the prairies? Hopefully your car wasn't broken into. The areas between towns were as long and desolate as advertised. I only stayed in Lethbridge, Calgary, Regina, and Winnipeg, but I had a good time in all of them. Seeing junior hockey in Lethbridge was super fun. I recognized most of the towns I drove through on the Trans-Canada from watching the Western Hockey League in Seattle, but I never really knew how small they were--Brandon, MB is really tiny.
All the towns had nice people, cool breweries, and at least some place to eat that was vegetarian, so I was happy. No break-ins. It's not a road trip I'd recommend to most people, and I probably wouldn't do it again unless I had a good reason. It was something that I wanted to check off my bucket list though, and now I've done it!

Where are you from homie? I think its only really a choice of Wellington or Auckland for me but everyone says Auckland is dull Southern california. So the prospect of moving probably sounds crazy to most. But wen't to NZ for our honeymoon and fell in love with it. Auckland is cool, but definitely has the least flavor imo. Queenstown is badass but I feel like Wellington is the best in-between.

I don't think you'll need to worry about getting sick, it's not that high up.

Thanks everyone! I guess the reason I mentioned Amsterdam was if I wen't in to Belgium from Munich and then up through Netherlands and then back around to Berlin. But if it's worth it to spend that extra time exploring more of Germany then that makes sense too. I'm pretty much going in blind here, so taking any suggestions!

If you can plan everything that you want to do in Amsterdam ahead of time and buy advanced tickets for the major museums, it's not too bad. The Rijksmuseum is incredible.

Been a busy few months. Ocean City MD in August, Portland, ME in October, New Orleans a few weeks ago and Tampa/St. Pete coming up in January.
I really wanna do a long weekend in San Fran -- anyone been and have thoughts on what the best time of year to go is?
Also really need to go back to Europe before I have kids. Looking at Portugal.

It also depends of how you'd like to travel (plane, trains or automobiles?). You could also make your way up toward Belgium and the Netherlands, and then maybe fly to Berlin, but I think that travelling by train in Europe is a pretty cool way to get around. There's some long distance buses as well and they're rather cheap, but train just has a tad more comfort instead of something like flixbus where sometimes you don't even get to go outside and stretch legs for 6 hours straight, and some dude just murders the toilet 1 hour into the trip.

I took cheap buses from Tallinn to Riga to Vilnius to Warsaw. That last one to Warsaw was a little over 6 hours, and it was about as much as I could take. The buses I took were really nice and had entertainment screens with movies and games.
Rail is definitely the preferred way to go.
