Did any of you guys have an Aladdin’s Castle in your mall? That arcade was so rad. No, but I have heard of that chain of arcades before. I guess there were lots of them? The one at the summit mall that I wrote about earlier was just OK, the Aladin's Castle at the boulevard mall, that I also mentioned was LEGIT. I remember getting SO PISSED at Dragon's Lair there and the had "Discs of Tron"

We also had a Kay-B Toy Store, which was a shitty Toys R Us knockoff on a much smaller scale. KB Toys was around for 26 more years than TRU you fuck In the 80's KB had a REALLY great selection of toys that no other store had. The carried D and D stuff, which usually you had to a comic shop or book store to get. I bought (well, my grandparents did) my First D&D Basic set there in 83.

Yeah KB ruled and always had harder to find, older, and more niche stuff. The end of KB, Suncoast, and now Toys R Us have made the toy industry suck on the mass market level.

oh gross, i totally forgot about that one. was main place ever not dog shit? I honestly have no idea, I didn't go there until i worked there at the Delaware Camera in the late 90's. Can confirm the tie dye Mall in Niagara Falls was a huge piece of shit, ALWAYS. The botanical "winter garden" was cool as shit though, it looked like a set piece from a 70's sci-fi film where Logan's Run took place.

There were several malls in my are as a kid, but the closest one had a few stores I remember clear as day:
B. Dalton bookstore (extinct national chain): my parents would take me there to get the latest goosebumps book
Auntie Anne’s pretzels
Comic Castle: where id buy Star Wars trading cards

Fucking loved malls. I grew up about a 45 minute train trip to one called Fountain Gate which was pretty small but to me was huge. There was one of those novelty shops full of the glowing ball things and in the window was one of those magic floating coke can things where the liquid was pouring out perpetually. There was a trading card shop and a place that sold wargames. Used to love the computer shop. This was when the games come in huge phone book sized boxes with cool art on them. The newsagents was huge and nothing like the little one at home. All these different magazines and comics. There was a lot of pastel pink tile and 90’s design everywhere. Lots of turns and fountains. I miss when malls had all these small businesses in them full of unusual stuff and plenty of entertainment. Now its all just huge chains that every one has and a few 2 dollar Chinese import shops. I also am a huge fan of malls younger sibling, the arcade. Not video game arcades but the little walk through a lot of main streets have here that are full of small shops. I guess they evolved from the Victorian era ones? Whenever I’m in a town I dont go to much I always look for arcades because they are where all the weird book shops, second hand dealers, hippy shops with crystals and tarot shit, weird cake makers and so on are. I used to take a lot of photos of those places too. There’s a mall on the other side of the city from me thats from the 1950’s. Its not really anything like you would call a mall today but I did go there and it was half dead and kind messy but p interesting.

the mall of my youth was the sun valley mall in concord ca it was fucking LIT in the 90's for sure. a big claim to fame was a plane crashed there in the late 80's haha but 90's sunvalley mall was so tight. they had a johnny rockets with dope milkshakes n shit listening to the supremes while you ate a burger or whatever. of course we had the now extinct WB store there which had a rocket ship in the back you could crawl into to watch old looney tunes and we most def had those old school goth looking wet seals there Dude YES! I grew up going to this mall and the Antioch mall. Antioch one was smaller but it was dank back in the day. But the Concord mall was so fuckin dope. Used to eat cinabons downstairs and go to Sam goody all the time. I also remember hot topic being really dark and shit. Like I thought it was low-key scary cause you'd walk by and just see Marilyn Manson/goth shit. I also used to hang out in Marvin's rocket. Man, those were the days.

I checked and mine still exists, thankfully. The Stroud Mall in Stroudsburg, PA.
All I really wen't to from childhood to my juvenile years were the Time-Out arcade, Kay-bee Toys, Electronics Boutique, Sbarro's, and the movie theater. There was an overpriced music shop that changed names a few times, but instead, I wen't to the indie record stores in the area. The best of which was an hour and ten mins away, but I still wen't to more often than the one forty-five mins away. Anyhow, there wasn't even a Hot Topic there are the time. Closest thing was this pretty boring hippie store that sold blacklight posters of bands like Nirvana, Pink Floyd, and Bush, in addition to tie-dye shirts and incense burners. Not many band shirts that I can recall.

There’s a mall here that only has two stores now. Bass Pro Shop and a huge vintage video game store. It’s fucking sick you can still walk around the entire mall too

I can still remember as a little kid going the places like Sizzler or Denny's and being able to smell smoke from the smoking section. It's unbelievable that was even a thing.
